Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Took her out for her annual "safety inspection" (emissions test not required by the rural TX county in which we live): 1. Turn on emergency flashers so the tech could verify the light bulbs all worked...check! 2. Honk horn so the tech could verify it works...check! 3. Show proof of insuran...

Re: A fuel-ish question

Isn't the ethanol avoidance thing not about performance, but how the ethanol affects older cars fuel distribution systems, which are not set up to handle ethanol? I believe I remember from the 928 forums that ethanol was to be avoided because it ate the older fuel lines. Not sure if we should avoid...

Finished removing all of the dust, grime and bugs collected during 6 days and 2000 miles to/from/in West Texas with a few other Porschephiles :)

Re: A fuel-ish question

My $0.02 -- note this is an educated guess as opposed to hard data, but 35+ years in the oil refining business informs the guess. Given their geographical spread across several states, Hy-Vee likely sources their fuels from a number of local/regional distributors ("marketing terminals"). T...

Re: Another Poll- Coupe Or Cabriolet ?

Just buy one of each. Problem solved! Seriously though, unless you really want and will use the cabriolet "top down" a lot, the coupe is definitely simpler plus it's lighter and more rigid (= better handling). I do enjoy "top down" driving a lot and that's why I have the '02 996 ...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

Gnat -- if you're in the IT/Tech field, Austin TX is a consideration. Hot, not terribly humid, vibrant and growing IT business, the city has Google fiber in many areas and zero state income tax. Personally I think the schools are pretty solid but then again a) I'm biased, having lived in Texas for 1...

Re: Poll - Do You Prefer A Manual or Tiptronic ?

Manual, definitely. If an "automatic transmission" is required/desired, then PDK not Tiptronic. I have a GT4 in large part because, at the time, the GT3 was only offered with a PDK and I'm a 100% MT guy. Like Billy, I learned on a manual and every car I've driven regularly over the last 40...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

Regarding locations for autocross -- our local PCA chapter has/had an arrangement with the police training academy. The club gets access to the academy's driving training facility and uses it (on weekends) for both its driving school and many autocross events. Seems like this might be an option to i...
