Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Picked it up from the Indy. Oil change (M1 bitches!!!!) Brake flush Unbend backing plate rather than needing new brakes Adjust frunk bumpers rather than needing to adjust frunk lid (still think it needs that) and clean/replace the latch Replace right front half shaft due to too much play in the knuc...

Re: Need MK1 Tail light

Be careful replacing just one. Got rear ended and both were replaced. A year later I got hit again, but only one tail light got replaced. Even in that short period of time there was enough sun damage that they were distinctly different. Talk about irritating every time you approach it from the rear ...

Re: X5's, Land Rovers and various assorted SUV's

Late to the game, but ... Cayenne (958). Like the 996, we've had her 07 328xi since new. Ultimate driving machine my ass, but to this day it's been reliable and has cost us little. The xDrive controller failed days before the warranty ended and that's the only major issue in 10 years). Even though I...

Yeah. I know they markup and generally I'm OK with it as they have to make a living too, but almost $200 is excessive.

They'll let me bring them parts sourced elsewhere, but other than engaging the stupid hex bolts to remove the airbag it is an easy DIY (clock springs don't scare me).

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Got reminded to not blindly trust your Indy :( Been too lazy to change out the turn stalk module (at least partially because I only replaced the original about 2 years ago and not both directions are broken :x) so since it needs to go in for some other stuff I got a quote for them to take care of it...

Re: My remote key must be failing...

Environment can also be a factor. There is a place downtown where she would have to put the key up to the center of the windshield over the sensor (it's in the little plastic bit where the "armed" light flashes) to get it to register. That parking spot was about 20' from a TV broadcast tower... But ...

Re: Decklid Actuator Failure?

The deck lid is supposed to pop up? Ours with the factory taco never has, but it doesn't take two people to open it. Press the button, then walk around a lift even though it looks closed.

Big nut = big pain in the ass

You gotta crack the case to do it right. There is an option out there to drill it out, but that just seems like a horrible idea to me (you going to bet that motor against being damn sure no debris gets left in the oil area?).
