the plot thickens.. I'm absolutely sure that the tensioner in the 1-3 location was the culprit for causing the startup rattle. The friction marks on the hydraulic piston where it was worn out and contacting the body of the tensioner confirms that. I'll take some pics of those pieces eventually. I am...

today I replaced the broken alternator mounting plate with a shiny used 997 one. Still waiting on the new oil fill tube to show up so I can reassemble. That’s gotta be +5 hp right there. gosh I hope so. ;) the 997 part is a much beefier design... hmm..maybe they figured out something?? still no oil...

my favorite ratchet has always been a Craftsman, angled swivel head 3/8" drive. It will fit in anywhere.

As far as the tool bag.. literally in the tool bag in the frunk I added the 7mm allen wrench that I used to lock the crank in place..just because.

I just ordered an ebay alternator last night. $84.00 new, since I don't care about the internals and only need the back casing. I just hope at that price that it isn't made of pot metal. posted on Pelican looking for a bad alternator.. no bites. Anyone have any good links for used Porsche parts? Its the only thing I don't already have on order to fix this latest issue.
