Re: Pee Pee Eye may be getting a little brudder...

Today I am late for work because, as I was driving past the neighbor lady's house, a certain black dog heard the 996 and became desperate to hang out for a while. He's turning into a gooder boy every day.

Re: Ok...so I think I killed my laptop last night

When we got "new" (they were $50K list - so we waited a long time to get them) Tek 4014's, we were officially The Shit (tm)...

Before we got our first Apple ][ with an acoustic coupler modem, we used this to start and check on jobs running at CDC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_Data_Corporation)...the venerable Silent 700... https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/28/Silent-700.jpg/1200px-Silent-700.jpg

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

There is no high worth drinking bong water for. Kinda like "plugging" - I don't care how good the high is. To prevent anyone from having to Google unsavory things, I'm providing reference material below... You did drink that water...right? Right? In addition to no longer having a sub in my...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

Shitty/cheap circuit design is my first guess. In good circuits, when a component frys the circuit opens or remains open. In cheap designs, a component failure can leave a circuit energized with no way to turn it off. It should be readily apparent when I crack the case open - it let out a LOT of smo...

Exactly this - 40 gigs of stuff on a thumb drive, with no full-size USB port to stick it into.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

This morning, I was driving the 996 to the office as usual when my subwoofer (the same 10" sub I've had in the car for years) started popping every few seconds. I figured it was an issue with the head unit, so I powered off the radio...and it didn't stop. About this time, I both noticed the bur...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

There is a downside to having an application that is only used at a specific time of day (to match when elementary kids are in school...). We have two periods of peak usage (8AM and noon Pacific) that we have to absorb, and then the whole system sits largely idling for the other 18 hours a day. This...

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com

This graph depicts why my year has sucked. The beginning shows last November and what we consider normal usage levels for our web-based app. Back in the pre-Covid area, we tried to have 50-100% spare capacity to absorb usage spikes...which wasn't enough.
