Ok...so I think I killed my laptop last night

Last night I had my laptop sitting in a tray that is about1/2” deep closed up. I then put a water bottle in the tray thinking it was also closed...it was not! Realizing my mistake within about 20 seconds I snatched the computer out of the tray. It was wet on the bottom but not on the keyboard. I immediately shut it off and put it in an area to dry overnight. This morning it booted up and I logged in. The internet connection showed off and wouldn’t let me turn it on. Battery showed 73%. I walked away to get coffee and when I came back nothing but black screen! Time to buy a new one?

Yeah that wasn't close to enough time to let it dry. Sounds like it would have been fine if you left it a few days before powering it on again.

Might put it in a sunny spot for the next few days and try again, but it doesn't sound good...

Update...so I set the computer aside and started doing something else. Within a few minutes I heard the startup "music" and it started up. The internet connection fired up and it seems to be working. Advise? There was a weird pop-up saying something like "the USB devices are using to much energy..." I don't have any USB devices plugged in but that glitch has now self resolved. I did plug in the charger when it went black screen in case the battery had crashed so could the heat of charging be driving out the moisture?

I hate technology.

No sun. Which is more important heat or air circulation? I was thinking of setting up a strip heater with a fan blowing the warmth across the cpu. Proper distance would be maintained to prevent excessive heat. Thoughts?

Unplug it, turn it off, and let it dry. There is absolutely water still in there.

If you have the skills, open the case so you can manually dry what you can and get better airflow to the rest.

Instead of sun, if you can get a large enough Tupperware bin and a bunch of fresh silica gel packets, toss them in the container with the laptop and leave it for a few days. Do not use rice. It doesn't really work that well and the dust will cause other issues.

Ok so I think moisture is gone thanks to sunshine and fans as everything is 5 by 5. The cpu was not submerged in water just sitting on top of some. Not sure it even got to the depth to get in the "holes" significantly. Now just to wait and see if corrosion comes to visit.

Get something with a decent GPU...just think of how good those "danger to manifold" renders will look!
