Pee Pee Eye may be getting a little brudder...

Post by 5chn3ll » Mon Nov 09, 2020 9:00 am

Ol' PPI is getting up there in years - he'll be 12 on his next birthday, and as much as I hate thinking about it, it's time to download as many of his mannerisms as possible to another dog.

This little guy is a 1-year-old Cockapoo rescue who is currently scared shitless of people, but it's obvious he really, really want to not be. We spent about an hour with him yesterday; we're going to take Pee Pee Eye over to meet him this evening. If that goes well, we'll foster him for a week and make sure there are no issues...hopefully he'll be taking turns riding in the 996 in a few weeks.

When we first got there, he wedged himself into a corner with one leg off the ground trying to get as far away from us as possible. By the time we left, he was taking food from our hands and started wagging his tail a bit when we'd walk back to him. He really, really wants to be a good boy...

Sounds like the poor feller has had a hard life. Tell PP to take it easy on the new guy.

Rescues are the best pets. Show them some love and they will never forget how much better you have made their life.

The only thing I would add is that the personality will change over the first few months once you get him home. Give him plenty of time to adjust. Starting with a one-week foster period is a good idea. But, we are a little over 10 months post-adoption of Emma. She was 7 months old when we got her. She has changed dramatically, both physically and in personality. About 5 months in, I thought we might have to give her up because she was pretty aggressive toward my daughter in certain situations. Now they are best buddies. She has mellowed a lot, but still needs to learn to be less aggressive when on a leash around strange adults. She always does great does great with kids, but on the leash she gets aggressive with adult strangers.

Agreed. Best pets ever along with the one's who just show up on your front porch. They never forget that you saved them and made their lives better...they never forget...ever.

Made it through the first night. The little guy is going to be a project, but things went pretty well last night. Pee Pee Eye was a bit...well...rapey, with lots of simulated humping to establish some dominance, but overall they're tolerating each other well. I do not believe Pee Pee Eye is familiar with the Me Too movement.

Cautiously optimistic.

Didn't he try that on the cat too?

Heh. I'm alpha dog around here. I expect that to be the case until the morning I wake up and one of them is gnawing on my throat and the other one is going full "angry chimp" on my plums...
