Well, all three hillbillies think RTV is a great idea - so it's probably a terrible idea.

I'd still do it, though.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

So I replaced the FEPs (no additional sealant) Thursday night. Haven't used the printer since given I'm in no rush to deal with another toxic chemical spill in my house, so last night I filled the tanks with water. Checked before bed after they'd been sitting for a few hours, dry as a bone. Checked this morning after about 14 hours and found this:

Better water than resin and better a paper towel on the floor than the printer, but still.

Oh. I know. Let's make a water tight sealing surface rough with nothing to conform to the imperfections to actually, you know, seal...

(the lower lip is the "sealing" surface)

First there is the "escalation that won't really get back to me early next week" fiasco to go through

Then it's likely going to be a couple of rounds of sending me new tanks for me to see that it is a design issue rather than a manufacturing mistake.

A layer of kapton tape might be (a) sticky enough adhere to the machined surface and (b) smooth enough to prevent more leakage...

The RTV is seeming like a better and better idea now that it's evident the design is fundamentally flawed anyway...

I'm not sure if it would confirm well enough as is. Possibly if after machining it still needs help.

I'm sure you have heard that Europe is quickly heading towards shutdown, again.

So the latest is (paraphrased and with some artistic liberties):
We're sorry that you chose to follow the directions we published to the Internet in a location intended for users to search for official answers and processes, but those are incorrect. We want you to waste more FEP films trying this other process that actually goes against all common wisdom and practice when tensioning a film like this.
