I really need to start printing in ABS - acetone vapor finishing would make the stuff look so much better...

I did some prosthetic works during a college internship. I made a bunch of cheapo acetone bath rigs because the department head blew the budget on a bunch of stratasys printers. The best results I had were from a used rice cooker I bought at goodwill for $4. You need to be careful with dwell times. If you have small features, they turn into blobs and disappear. Also keep in mind vapor acetone is flammable, so stick to e-cigs.

Also, keep your expectations really low. That is a perfect case study part you have pictured.

Meh. If you look at that example, the "finished" model has lost the detail of the mouth that is on both the raw prints.

I think it can work well for some things, but it pretty much sucks for anything with fine detail or that should have sharp/crisp edges.

From what I've seen there appears to be an art to it as well. Not enough and you still see the lines. Too much and it looks like something Pee Pee Eye would leave in the yard.
