Finally did it. Ordered an Original Prusa MK3 with the Multi Material Unit.

Other than obscenely time consuming Voltron prints I'm still not sure just what I'll be doing with it though...

My 6yr old might make more use of it than me. He saw me playing with my IMSB model (need to get back to that) and wanted to make his own model. I set him up on TinkerCAD, showed him the basics (about all I'm capable of) and left him alone. He came up with a swimming pool for his HotWheels that actually only needed a few adjustments for it to be printable. To cut down the 3 day print time and crap ton of support material I suggested moving a couple of parts to a separate model and then attaching them after the fact. Out of the blue with no prompting he then suggested building pins (called it "points and holes") into the model to help place and orient the separate pieces. Damn impressed with the kid. Not only did he actually have an idea and pretty well implement it (it looks like something a 6yr old would make, but still!) with little help, but he also figured out a joining concept all on his own too.

I was bored and made a render. Comic sans because that entire ordeal was fucking stupid.

Well shit. Everything was looking good (though I had hints that things were not as desired) until I started working on the flange. Measuring the spindle the bearing fits on shows 20mm diameter, but when I calculated out the ID of the bearing model is 24mm

Not exactly German grade tolerances there...

Printer showed up today. Bought the pre-built model to limit my ability to fuck it up. Self test and calibration ran fine so I went on to my first test print with a 2 hour run time. Checked every 15 to 30 minutes and all was going well. Last check had 30 minutes remaining and all was still good. Go back down to find 2 minutes left on the clock and the print had detached from the bed

First test print of an IMSB piece. The threads look good, but as I kind of expected the nut doesn't work. It mates up to the real bearing perfectly though and the shaft up to the "o-ring" fits the flange perfectly as well.

I tried to be cute with the o-ring, but A) it's not free floating as intended and B) a shade wider than the shaft is too wide when it's an inflexible material.

If the shaft is anything to go by I'm gonna have some amazing weight savings when I'm done printing the entire M96!
