Anyone else here into tinkering with PC's?
Swapped cases last night from a Corsair 240 to 460x. Definite improvement in case build quality; the old generation 240 was very plastic-y. It was also extremely cramped with a cpu and gpu water cooler.

The last PC I built was a 486 DX50
I got tired of my computer always being in pieces when I actually needed it so I started forcing AOL to give me a laptop (back in the day where that wasn't a common practice) if they wanted me to respond off hours. Then I started buying Macs so I just didn't have to bother with building and it was someone else's problem if it broke.
I did assemble a Mini PC a few years ago to be a VM host, but the board, PSU, and cooling were already chosen for me so all I had to do was plug in the biggest CPU, RAM, HDD, and Flash drive that it would take.

(the old air cooled models were way better built)

I haven't built a dedicated gaming rig for at least 5 years...at some point, I realized that spending $3-5K every couple of years to build a BETTER platform to get schooled by 13-year-olds wasn't necessarily a fulfilling hobby.

56 cores and 768GB of RAM sounds awesome, but $40k before you put 4 $3500 GPUs in it is a bit nuts...

Yeah I have a deep desire to own it (though my bank account says otherwise), but for the life of me I can't come up with even lame excuses for it. And I'm the guy that justified gold plating a used car part!

Oh, hey, speaking of IMS bearings, I fucked mine UP with my MAP pro torch last night. I wanted to slag the whole thing, but the oxygen ran out. Probably had something to do with the hour I spent dicking around feeding pure oxygen to chunks of burning magnesium...
