Or I just do a 1/2 bath because the house has 3 full baths and literally the one shower has never ever been used and in what world will this basement shower ever be needed, especially since the third bathroom would be converted from the kids playroom to a legit guest room as part of this effort.

Gonna have to play with 1/2 bath layouts using this template and see what pops.

We have a guest room in the basement, so our shower gets used down there. Not a lot, but it's a "nice to have" when we have a lot of people in the house over the holidays, even though we have 3 full baths on the top 2 floors.

I think it would be a wise financial and quality of life decision given the minimal cost to move those drains and have an extra shower, especially if you ever decide to sell the house.

I would definitely pay to have those drains moved - not worth it to DIY that project. That would still leave you with plenty of other work to DIY. I assume you're going to hire a plumber and an electrician in any event, right?

At least your basement has proper rough-in's. My house was built in '62 and the pipe for the toilet was made oval when they poured the floor, apparently. I'd probably have to hire a contractor to fix it. Not going to happen, even though I'd like a small half bath down there. My next chore is prepping the walls and painting the basement. The previous owner had started with what looks like 'Alcatraz Green' and it definitely needs a makeover.

Good luck with your project. Ask Paul at the next breakfast. He be a mechanical engineer!!

It actually works really well if you downsize the basement to a shower only instead of a tub/shower combo and use a pedestal sink.

It does leave a weird 7*9 rectangle that I mocked up as a weird ass kitchen in this. I like the idea of the wet bar being in this corner of the basement instead of the other side but it still seems like a weird use of space.

You could go with a macerating toilet if you don't like where the crapper would need to be placed given the existing plumbing...

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

I am not Googling "macerating toilet."

Heh. They're also called "upflush" toilets. The macerator grinds your poo into a slurry, and the built-in pump sends your blended butt-sludge up to the ground floor to tie into your wastewater system.

Per the Interwebs: "Upflush toilets make it easy for everyone to add a new bathroom in a tight space (like a basement) or in places that aren't conducive to adding pipes."
