What say you? 3 hour drive from my house. ‘74 1.8 liter car. Asking $5,800. Thoughts?

I’m thinking good buy if it is in decent shape. Might be a good car to tinker with while waiting for the “right” car to come along.

I'd really need to see a lot more pix. Might be a good buy, might not. Needs a good rust assessment.

Looks like a very good "maybe" though! Looks like most all is original. Missing front and rear bumperettes, nonstock radio. Speaker holes in dash top. Not prohibitive things. FI or carbs? Original paint? Real Fuchs? (I think so). That seat damage is an easy fix.

I see a lot I like. Definitely worth checking out this car further!

Both of yours are beautiful cars, Mike! My goal is to end up in your blue one or something similar at some point. It's just a matter of timing with the wife. She just got a bid for repainting our kitchen/family room/utility room and cabinets: $7420 plus we buy the paint. Ugh. And then we start a complete remodel on the master bedroom & bath & guest room & bath in mid-August. So, I'm shopping the bargain bin for the next year or so.

Paint it yourself, buy the car, and still have spare change!

Well, the search goes on. The owner of the Olympic Blue car in Des Moines was really, really nice. He went home and took a bunch of pics for me. The car definitely needs a repaint and has some minor body rust and some surface rust in the trunk. But it didn't look that bad to me - I would just plan on having it completely repainted. I'd leave it Olympic Blue as that is my third choice in color (Ravenna Green 1st choice, then any of several shades of orange 2nd choice, then Olympic Blue third choice). The dash was in really good condition. I would just get the driver's seat recovered. The rest of the interior was pretty good.

So, what was the problem? He took some pics of the right side longitudinal, just forward of the rear wheel. This is underneath the infamous "hellhole". Cuda could probably tell me more about it after looking at the below 2 pics, but that big crack scares the heck out of me. If it was here in KC, I'd definitely go take a look and remove the rocker panels and poke and prod around to see if the longitudinal was sound. But, I don't want to drive 3 hours each way to do that. So, I'll pass. Here are the 2 pics that scared me:

By the way, Cuda, did you know that your car is the first car shown in a string of cars used as examples of Olympic Blue for the 914 on PCA's website?

Yeah, I think it's OK for now, but one of these days, it's going to need some serious metalwork. If I could weld . . .

Ha! Never saw that before! Can I sue for some sort of infringement and make a pile? Joke's on them, it's not even Olympic Blue!
