The focus of this website is the 996 series of Porsche. But, soon after this 996 website was created, we realized that there was a desire for discussion of other Porsche models here. Many of us own other models of Porsche, so we created a subforum for each of the other models.

The purpose of this thread is to give you 928 guys a place to develop some camaraderie. It's OK to post non-technical stuff here. And because it's annoying to have a technical thread get littered with jokes and such, let's try to keep that non-technical stuff here and out of the other threads in this subforum.

This past Saturday morning, the wife issued orders for me to run an errand. My 18-yr-old son had been driving the 928 the past 3 weeks or so, and it was a little dirty. So, the errand plus a dirty car seemed like the perfect excuse for a drive on a beautiful Saturday.

The car was running great, and since I replaced the front brake pads and rotors a couple of weeks ago, it stops good, too. I stopped by the car wash, then headed out on the nearest highway to air dry the car (I was too lazy to wipe it down after the car wash). I dialed up some 1980s rock anthems on Pandora ("Jane" "Renegade" "Come Sail Away" "Find Your Way Back") and cranked the stereo. At some point, I dropped by the bank and actually made the deposit my wife sent me out for (which should've taken about 10 minutes).

When I got home, the wife says "where the hell have you been for the last hour and something?"
Me: "I took a little trip back in time. It's all good."

Looks like I'll be driving the 928 as my daily this week due to a part backordered on my A8L. The 951 has the HVAC stuck on full hot, so no driving it in August til I get that blend door unstuck. I could take the 996tt, but dailyed it last week. Our old E30 cab needs to come down off the lift since it's been there since March. But I think I will stick with the 928 this week.
It has been up on the lift all summer, so when I drove it to PCA breakfast Saturday, the tires were flatspotted and really rattled my fillings. But today, the tires had rounded out and it drove really smoothly. The rear AC is doing a good job keeping the cabin cool despite the front AC blowing warm. All things considered, it's a pretty damn comfortable ride now that I got most of the issues sorted out on it.. Looking forward to spending the week with it.

Well, Facebook sent me a reminder that 4 years ago today, my son and I picked up our 928 in South Bend, IN and drove it home to KC. What a great trip! My son was a freshman in high school at the time, and now he's away in college. Time flies and I really miss seeing him every day.

That's exactly why I love having a decent sub in the 996 - when the time comes for some serious music-fueled flashbacks, nothing beats good bass.

Sounds like an awesome drive. I haven't driven a 928...I imagine it's like my '96 Corvette, but with less squeaking and a couple hundred fewer square feet of plastic finish inside.

Also, POPUP HEADLIGHTS! If you can't get into a serious 80's flashback in a car with popup headlights, it's time to sell the collection of Styx LPs...

Hmmm... So you only miss having ONE son around huh? How's your son that just moved to my neck of the woods feel about that? Maybe I should stake out his office and show him this obviously parentally-biased post...




BTW as long as I'm slumming in these parts, is there such a thing as a good week with a 928? Or is the bar simply so low that "didn't catch on fire and kill me" enough to qualify?

I'm of the opinion that the 928 is in the same boat as the 996 - an amazing car light-years more advanced than Porsche's previous flagship vehicles that is continually disparaged by idiots who believe that anything from Porsche must include two elements: a flattened hump to sit in and a trunk full of lawnmower engine.
