Site Progress and suggestions...

Post by 5chn3ll » Sat Jan 06, 2018 1:17 pm

Since I'm making this shit up myself, progress may be a little slow until some of the slacking bastards from RL make their way over here and decide to contribute. Or, you know, I'll founder and die on my own. Whatever.

Anyway, updates will be listed here. Questions and suggestions should go below; I'll do what I can and ignore the rest.

2018-01-06: SSL implemented
2018-01-06: Busted the site theme installation horribly. Unbroke it. Net gain: zero
2018-01-08: Changed max number of PMs per folder to unlimited
2018-01-08: Configured AdWords campaign to (hopefully) generate interest.
2018-01-09: Traded in the ugly default theme for an ugly customized theme. But at least there's a 996 now.
2018-01-09: Configured site backups. Backups are good.
2018-01-09: Revised AdWords account and search terms. Increased spend.
2018-01-10: Increased max attach size to 4MB
2018-01-10: Enabled auto-thumbnailing for images greater than 500KB. Max thumbnail dimension is 800px.
2018-01-10: Merged Turbo and GT3/GT3RS forums into a single high-performance forum
2018-01-10: Changed default protocol to https for registered users
2018-01-10: Modified cookie name to match site name
2018-01-11: Adjusted some localization strings and added favicon
2018-01-11: Launched Jan. 2018 Pelican certificate giveaway
2108-01-15: Revised AdWords text to (hopefully) make Google stop being difficult.

Next project is to add a less hideous phpBB theme. Anime, maybe, or MLP:FIM.

You can't have a 996 site without a grouchy original owner as a moderator that would be entirely arbitrary about moderating without explaining his reasons to anyone.

You also need a really shitty mobile app!

Allow larger avatars. RL was ridiculous and let people totally screw up page formatting, but a 6kb limit is too small. 50kb?

Make all your buddies mods so they stop asking to be mods.

Let's go with "send me a PM if you want to get mod status" for now. Otherwise, there's no chance I'm going to keep everything straight.

Is there a "jump to first unread" function for when you click on a thread you've been to before that I just haven't found?

In the Quick Links section, there is a "show unread threads" option. There may be others I can enable - phpBB is pretty capable, but I haven't used it extensively in years.
