Because Internet, there need to be some very basic ground rules.

Rule 1: Don't be a dick.

That's pretty much it.

For clarification:
* Being a smartass is different than being a dick. If you can't handle smartasses, go away.
* If you ARE a dick, the stuff you write will get deleted. If you KEEP being a dick, you'll get booted.
* "You're not the boss of me" - well, I kinda am, at least here. So don't be a dick.

These rules may be revised or amended at any time in the future if it is determined that people are still being dicks.

If you are a dick to other people here, and you get called out, stop. You're acting butthurt, and you look silly.

Me and my ragtag group of semi-literate moderators (well, there's one guy currently, but I don't think he's confirmed his email address yet) will look out for dicks and intervene if it seems appropriate, but the goal will be to avoid the heavy-handed moderation unless some is really being...you guessed it...a dick.

So, let me get this straight,

I believe the suggested revision is redundant.

"Don't be a dick" is not limited to just this forum.

Some people seem to feel like being a dick in another forum and are, in the process, hurting the reputation of this site and the rest of us here.

Say some guy comes into this forum and posts a disseratation on how water may be going into his engine via the air box during a car wash..... and I say something like stop being a vagina.... and he calls me a dick? Does that actually count as being a dick? Sometimes I walk the line between smart ass and a hole. But I felt like, in this case especially, the OP earned it.

If you are an otherwise contributing member of the forum, not a dick. If you then come over here and post to draw attention to said thread, dick. If all you are doing is posting such responses to such blatant stupidity, dick.

Now if someone seriously posted (note that "Opie antics" qualify as dick) such a thread here, most bets are off.

Also, some people have different definitions of what is being a dick so err on the side of not being a dick in all potentially dick circumstances.
