Any last minute thoughts from the folks here on a C4 vs the standard two wheel drive? I know the C4 is extra weight and not really needed in So Cal but that would be a small price to pay for an otherwise near perfect car.

Now that's funny and accurate. My car lived in TX for 9 years and when I bought it in 2014 it only had 45k miles

Mine is a 4S so not quite the same, but...since I don't track nor pylon race it I don't really cares about the extra weight. There are some additional maintenance items such as front cv joints, boots and the drive disc that can present problems that are not in a C2. I like the way my car drives but have never driven a C2 so there is that...

As a .1 C4 owner, get the C4 ;)

First of all, the AWD system in these cars is about performance and not bad weather, though it is a little monster in bad conditions.

It is heavier, but it is a better weight distribution which makes it easier to handle. The weight only took .2s off the 0-60 against the C2.

Speaking of handling, it wants to understeer like all AWD/FWD cars, but (I find) that happens at a much later point than a C2 starts oversteering.

All C4s have PSM, but unlike the C2 you can completely turn the nannies off as it is part of the AWD system. As such it is a much more forgiving car if you get sloppy.

When you start talking about the track there are two main points. The first is that it shares it's chassis with the GT3 rather than the C2 which means it is stiffer. Secondly, the AWD system lets you carry more speed into your corners and get back on the power sooner. I've driven ours at both an AutoX and on the track and it is well at home in both.

Only once in 20 years has ours misbehaved and I spun it. Otherwise no matter how stupid I've gotten, it's gone where I pointed it with little to no drama. In fact the only times I've ever had the PSM cut in to smack me around is when or tires were way too old and hard as a rock.

Regarding maintenance, other than the CV boots we've never needed to do anything with it.

It's also trivial to remove the FWD components. My front diff is hanging from my garage rafters.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Congrats. Looks like a nice car.

I look forward to your dissertation on how the C4 is the new C2

Congratulations John!! That's a beautiful car. My first 996 was a '99 C4. I drove that thing everywhere and year 'round. I loved the way it handled. Shoot me a private message with your mailing address and I'll mail out the 996outpost.com t-shirt that Dr_Strangelove (whew!) purchased for you right away.
