Having helped Jake with rebuilding an M9X, got to see a lot of the component in these engines up close. The oil pump is a very robust part that have very few complaints of failure compared to other parts on the engine. In Jake's words, it takes some serious amount of sh*t to take one out. The sensor on the other hand, it's gonna fail like all other sensors on a 20 year old car. I'm sure heart failure can happen when you see the warnings. Just know the mechanical and metal composition on the oil pump is very strong. The only part within the oil pump that is known to fail is the old hex drives. I believe Porsche improved the part over the years.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:31 amNothing to add except this would scare the bejesus out of me. Car didn’t stall or make any odd sound. After screaming WTF and immediately moving over to stop, the warning light went off and the needle jumped back up to 5. I kept driving and car acted perfectly the entire trip home.
Sensor glitch?
Thanks

Re: Oil warning message
If you were caning it around that right hand bend it could be that your oil level is very low. Check your oil level with the dipstick (yeah, 996!). If it's low, top it off.
I have seen the oil pressure in my 996 spike very low (not to zero, however) in very long and fast sweeping curves, when the oil's a half-quart or more low.
More than likely a bad sensor or a loose connection to it is the culprit, as others have mentioned, but eliminating low oil level as a cause is easy peace-of-mind.

Nothing to add except this would scare the bejesus out of me. Oil sender sensor looks pretty easy to change though.

Good thread on Rennlist on how to change it out in about an hour. Had the same issue with my C4S this spring. Had my Indy install the oil pressure sending unit I bought off Pelican and bada bing bada boom, problem solved.

Six weeks since it 1st happened and last night it happened 2x inside of 2 minutes, traveling 90mph and applied brakes, warning message and gauge dropped to zero. Reversed itself immediately upon accelerating. Guess its time to change the sensor.
