Figured it out. KC must have had too much Egg Nog last night. He banned a GoDaddy proxy IP by mistake. So a portion of users were getting the block message.

To be fair, the phpBB interface and GoDaddy kinda suck.

We can't ban all the spammers by IP due to us only seeing the GoDaddy proxy IPs

In a mostly pointless attempt to try to slow the spammers down our SOP is to ban the email address they use. Unfortunately "Ban by email" and "Ban by IP address" are right next to each other in the drop down list so I see how it could have happened by mistake and am honestly shocked that it hasn't happened more often.

Oh well, gives us something else to laugh at KC for.
