So Spielberg is filming something based in Havana of 1950s. And he is filming it in NYC, right on my mom's block. Two blocks from Central Park. She is basically on his set.

Edit: found that this is a remake of Westside Story.

Hollywood: when you need lights to correct the sun. I've rented one of those rigs before but not THAT big. (Mine didn't come on a truck  ) That's... something else.

I was about to say Spielberg was going to have to pull those New York license plates off of all the old cars. BTW the cars still fit in to the way Cuba looks today! It is a testament to the talent of those folks to keep the cars running w/o being able to get parts from the US.

Weird Twilight Zone stuff today. Last week, after I got home from inspecting a bunch of properties, I couldn't find my camera a few days later. Crap. Photos are a must-have for every project. After two days of searching, I knew I had to get a new camera and go back to all these places. Did that today. Six places, 200 mile round trip, in the 991. Last site was a crappy vacant old medical office building.

Next door is an ARCO, so I walk over to get a gatorade. When I get back, as I am going down the sidewalk towards my car, I see a very grubby homeless guy riding his bike around it. As I get closer, he turns to me and says "that's a million dollars!" I replied, "Well, not quite that much."

I had noticed an old shopping cart at the site with a blanket over it. So I said, "Hey, don't you live there? By any chance have you seen a little blue digital camera? I think I may have left it here last week." He said, "Yeah, I've got it. Hang on a second, I'll go get it. I'm an honest person, I thought someone might be looking for it, so I saved it." He then went and got it. I gave him $20 (was that enough?).

Then he proudly showed me his bike, a 1974 Schwinn. He knew all about bikes, and we chatted a bit.

He also showed me how he's been maintaining the property. He sweeps it daily. He showed me a bit of blue graffiti on the wall. He says he caught some gang guy doing it, and ran him off of the property. He showed me a hole in the floor he fixed.

He asked if I had a business card, but I told him I was all out, but that the broker's contact info was on the sign.

Very surreal.

I think that is awesome. Some people are afraid of homeless folks. They are just people too. Trying to live with what they have. I don't know about California and Thank You gratuity levels, but I think $20 worked. If he would have pawned or street sold it he wouldn't have gotten that much. That's a guy that could probably do better if someone would give him a chance, if he wanted to do so. He might be happy where he is and that's ok. Good on you for hanging and chatting with him. We could be him with only a slight turn of fate.

Good on you, Cuda. $20 is the right amount. As sad as it is to say, giving him more may have just gotten him into trouble.

Went out to dinner last night at an outdoor restaurant in a park in suburban Madrid. There's a playground at the restaurant where the kids play while the adults chill at their tables. About midnight (not late for a summer Friday night where dinner starts around 10 pm), a couple of the kids start screaming "jabalies". The wild boars had moved in for the night. There were a couple of little ones that had no fear of humans, but God help you if you start messing with them while mama wild pig was near. Amazing how quickly they destroyed the grass. The multicolored fence in the first pic is the edge of the playground.

Those ones will be tough and chewy. They need to be harvested earlier.

I understand what you're saying but I adopt the following: "Give if you want and then forget it." What he/she does with it is up to them now. If they get food great. If they drink, snort or shoot it that's on them. I have found you can't make people choose the better path. They must do that for themselves.
