That one actually rang a bell ... took me a minute to find the article. A great illustration of why it’s so important to broaden your trashy tabloid horizons:

Getting tricked into it 20 years ago was enough for this life time.

Going to try to get people to dig up 2 girls 1 cup or Goatse next?

Some of the pages in the playbook are oldies but goodies...

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Not a twisty track rat, but back in the day have I raced different types of vehicles on dirt for money not just during "track days". Anytime I came up on someone I was unsure of or driving outside the expected I would hesitate, observe then go around when the opportunity presented itself. It usually didn't take too long. I found early on just blindly trying to blast by someone can get your equipment torn up.

Just my opinion as I have no experience or knowledge of how these events work.

You're not wrong. It's amazing that you'll spend 20 minutes on track and be near someone for 1-2 minutes of that time but you know for certain who you can trust and who you can't.

I used to play a ton of poker and a guy I knew came up with a theory he called the "half life of competence" and the gist of it was that whenever a new player sat down at the table you had to assume he knew what he was doing but everyone has a half life of their competence. The truly bad players would have extremely short half lifes; they'd make a glaringly obvious mistake in the first few hands or even before they even played one. But everyone has one if you wait long enough, you'll see their mistakes. But the longer you have to wait, the more likely it is they are generally competent.

Being on track with people isn't different, it's just more dangerous.
