I celebrated by changing the oil and doing a bunch of Little Bullshit Stuff. Like replacing the Crappy Old Double-Sided Tape under my passenger-side stainless steel sill trim. It is now held securely in place with Crappy New Double-Sided Tape.
What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
well, I just went full retard
CTEK maintainer was plugged in, hood (frunk, ) unlocked
casually unplugged the CTEK without ever checking the status
and closed the frunk
remember, I'm a cool guy and my 996 is the best one ever built
Its a reliable German sports car, alway garaged, always clean, I have a
horde of extra parts in waiting..just in case
My Bosch (OEM supplier) battery was dead, dead enough that the interior lights
(LED replacements from ECS,...remember, I'm a cool guy) didn't even activate
followed by that sinking feeling that this going to require bit of thought
really cool guy that I am, I get my jump pack from the truck
Because I'm constantly saving stranded drivers with tho 'offer of a jump'
..pretending that I know things about cars (hey, I own a Porsche !!)
so I attack the fuse panel and instantly the frunk (MY 2004 has the cool
electronic version, not those prehistoric cable versions you luddites)
is accessible again
so in just a matter of minutes, the best 996 anywhere should be road worthy (yea, the IMSB is done)
my journey today is largely humanitarian, go watch part of an MLB game with my
nearly wholly independent 94 yo stepfather (yes, he's ridden the Porsche)
bu secretly, this is far more ego driven as this this only the 2nd or 3rd time I've been physically
able to enter / exit the most best 996 ever manufactured this calendar year
so that's twice in 4 years of ownership that I've been locked out, despite
having a maintainer semi-permanently installed and a power cord within 4'
of the Turbo bumper
KC / b3.... cue the Bruce Willis video from Friends

Congrats my friend. You probably represent less than the 1% of 996 owners that got the fuse jump technique to actually work the way it was intended!

got a new AGM battery from Manny, Moe and Jack and I'll slog thru that in awhile

I second b3’s kudos ... regardless of the outcome, getting the fuse jump thing to work is a notable accomplishment. Please take a shot at cold fusion next, as that ought to be child’s play compared to 996 electricssitedrifter wrote: ↑Sun Jul 22, 2018 7:44 amnot so fast my southern friend, after 4+ hours of charge, I called it..

I went through a similar exercise recently ... fortunately, I am not as cool as you and much of my 996.1 is cable-operated. The battery looked OK on my Cheap-ass Amazon Lightning Deal (TM) multi-meter, but rolled snake eyes on my Equally Cheap-Ass Amazon Lightning Deal Battery Load Tester.
My new AGM battery is a Duracell from the Club of Sam. The old battery was in the car when I bought it five years ago, so I guess it didn’t owe me anything.

What's difficult about the fuse jump? Done it probably 20-30 times over its life. Never any issues...
