Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
I've got a question, that may lead to me doing something with my 996, but I digress.
I have the cassette holder under the radio, with spots for 4 cassettes. I don't mind it, but I use the new Bluetooth receiver I added to play my opera arias through my phone.
HOWEVER, if it's in the car, I want it to work and this thing seems like it's not getting power. Even when the car is on, pushing the button on any of the cassette holder drawers does nothing, no lights, no noises, nothing.
Anyone else have this issue? I guess first step would be the fuse, but there's nothing else with no power and I doubt there's a fuse just for this thing. The only other thing I can think is someone disconnected it trying to find a draw, or it otherwise somehow got disconnected. Other than my Bluetooth receiver, radio is stock and this was an issue before I installed the Bluetooth so don't go blaming me.
I know the answer is, "take it out and put in a cubby" but I'm bored and this is a fun little problem I have. First person with the right solution gets to keep the cassettes that I find in there (no guarantees).

Well, if it's one of these:
Then it's an analog model, so you have to run wires to it directly off the battery. What you do is find an old set of jumper cables, and cut off the alligator clamps on one end. Attached the remaining alligator clips to the negative and positive terminals of your battery. Then thread the bare ends through the firewall and attach them to the back side of the cassette holder. Don't place a fuse inline either as the cassette holder draws a lot of power.
You're welcome.

Analog can be defined as manual operation...?FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:19 pm Well, if it's one of these:

Wait, so there’s no power going to it? How do the little drawers open then because I have push those little buttons a hundred times and got bubkes. Don’t those lights come on?FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:19 pm Well, if it's one of these:

OB2000 - If you pull the little red tab thingy in the breaker box by the dead pedal, and jump the car from there and the door latchermabob, give your cigarette lighter a wet Willy and turn on the ignition; that sucker will either light up or catch on fire.
Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
As much as I think this is a hilarious topic, I will offer the insights of having said tape caddy for almost 20 years even though we removed the head unit probably 15 years ago...
It's just a tape holder. Nothing more. Press the button and that holder pops out. If it's not working then either it's jammed or the springs have failed.
No power. No lights.
What looks like a light is just a window where a little red bit pops up when there is a tape in the holder.

Not today, but last night I piled my girls in the backseats and took them to volleyball.
They are 13 and 15. This REALLY IS still a family car!
