Doc brings the wisdom on this one. Be thankful you didn't nose dive and rip your front bumper off. That would have been crazy expensive to repair. The guy that I deal with at the body shop says a replacement Carrera 996 bumper from Porsche is now pushing $2000 for the base version. You add prep, primer, and paint and that bill could be pushin' $3000. Ouch.

Be thankful my friend! ;)
Damn I thought you were seriously getting shafted by your guy, but it turns out only moderately so.

We replaced the bumper 2 years ago it was about $500 for the .1 aero skin. Auto Atlanta still says it's ~$630 for a .1 plain skin in the parts diagram, until you follow the link, then they want ~$1300!

That was the most expensive I could find though. Most seem to offer it for $11-1200.

We need a new bumper skin too :-(

Aerokit front bumpers are crazy expensive. When I cracked mine back in 2014, the quote for the part alone was $2,300 (IIRC). Luckily the body shop was able to repair it, and the cost with new paint out the door was only $900.

You got robbed? We're on our 4th front (aero) bumper and it's never been more than $500 with the latest being in 2016.

The rear, on the other hand, ...

Cayenne is the same way. Cheap front bumper, expensive rear bumper. Always boggled my mind.

:o

Guess my body shop has always known the right people or something (yes it has always been an OEM bumper and it is the correct aero). It's the damn rear bumper that has always been 2-2500 (only had to replace that twice though).

Gnat, are you sure that the $500 wasn't for the repair of the bumper instead of replacement? Or, maybe it was a used aero bumper??? I've been looking at aero bumpers for several years in hopes to snag one cheap and I've never seen one used for less than $700. The base bumpers usually run $300 - $500 used on eBay.

Curious... you're on your 4th bumper? What the heck! Do you have parking problems? haha Was the bumper severely damaged each time?

I removed my CD player. Time for a new corner balance.

Yeap replaced every time and with new real parts (insurance always wants to cut corners, but Chris doesn't let them do it). Saw them in person every time.

Two were from when she rear ended a couple of people due to some new meds that messed her up worse than we realized. Two were just from the joys of DC assholes that believe bumpers are parking guides...

Takes surprisingly little to crack these things and once that happens they are done as they don't repair very well.

Oil and filter today. No matter how many times I do it, the sheer quantity of oil makes me uneasy.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.
