My battery finally gave up the ghost. Replaced it with 850 CCA AGM battery. Compared to a battery swap on a Cayenne, a 996 is child's play. I bought the car in September 2015, so it was at least 4 1/2 years old.

Being in the house with no major projects was getting to me, so went for a morning drive.

Average speed was somewhere around the 90's. and there wasn't 1 cop on the roads.

I didn't want to say anything about it, but at the last KCRPCA breakfast (which seems like ages ago), I noticed the back sides of your wheels were looking a little dusty.

With all the drywaill work, sanding, painting, etc. all that I've done in the last month is wash off the drywall dust at a car wash. Now it's just plain organic dust...everywhere...on everything.....

I may start car washing again when it gets warmer...or if this government-ordered exile ever ends. Now that they have a taste of how easy it is to invoke "emergency measures" and get people to comply, I fear this will be an annual thing from now on.

Must be nice. Even our do it yourself car washes are closed around here.

Wow, they closed the car washes? That seems a little much and a little misplaced. Now I have to go see if ours are still open.

After spending a good part of the day getting this monstrosity of a garage cabinet ready to remove this weekend - the previous homeowner built this thing into the front corner of the garage and while it would hold a lot, it just does not fit the plan anymore. 3/4" plywood, floor-to-ceiling...and he used nails instead of screws to fasten it to the wall. Unreal. I can't wait to drag it outside and put the thing on Craigslist...some assembly required!!

BUT, after a couple of days of just moving the 996 out onto the driveway to clear the garage for painting and this....cabinetry project....I took it out for about a 15 mile spin. After warm-up I went to my favorite on-ramp for a short blast without concern for any merging traffic. Not that there was any. Mighty sparse traffic out there, which I guess is good.

So...no human contact...just a quick drive and back into isolation. I did notice a HUGE police presence, though. I got to thinking that due to the extraordinary measures imposed by government, there are a LOT of police officers out there that are NOT making their monthly quota of citations, which affects the city coffers. SO, they are looking for anything and everything - so be aware that even when you head to a permitted activity, you are a potential target. Make sure that those tail lights are in good working order. ;)

I’ve been home A LOT more, so taking the 996 out for frequent half hour sanity checks. Went to the dealer to pick up headlight washer hose for the Pepper (still repairing the front end after the non-COVID-related deer slaying). Normally a 35 minute trip with ‘normal’ traffic in Nashville, today was a spicy 27 minute jaunt. The old neun elf loves to cruise at 85. Just the right level of noises for a soothing 5th gear sonata!

Have had the Turbro out a couple of times per week, keeping in mind that there are less targets for the police. So far, so good, though

You know, assuming the weather is nice next Saturday morning, I think I might just go out to Pegah's at 7:00 am, order a carryout breakfast and sit in a folding chair behind my car and eat my breakfast. I will take a couple of small cones and block off the parking stalls on either side of me. If someone else happens to show up at the same time and do the same thing, I'd have somebody to visit with, from a safe distance, of course. Just sayin'.
