Just driving it. Ran up to Thousand Oaks three times this week to get escrow monies in, watch the place go through an inspection, got copies of documents. Went to the post office, went to the market, beginning to remember what it was like to drive a manual every day, year after year. My ear and the engine are totally in tune...I wouldn't want a louder exhaust...nor a more quiet one. Maybe I'll never regain the fluidity and naturalness of those past years...and maybe I will...or maybe I'll just get close. But I would find it very very hard to go back to a modern digital car. I'm stunned at how bad most drivers are today. They have no idea of what would happen if the car in front of them suddenly hit the brakes. Its like watching Russian dash cams on You Tube.

Glad you are enjoying your "new" car. Drive it in good health!

Drove the Turbro to work twice this week, then to Porsche breakfast and cars & coffee this morning. If I had to get rid of all the toys but one, there’s no doubt which I’d keep. These cars are sooo good.

The 996 got a wash this morning. I had to leave it outside a couple of nights last week, and the ash from the fires made a real mess of things.

Looks more better now. Hoping to convince Mrs. S. to go up Pacific Coast Highway for a sunset cruise this evening. It's supposed to be 72 and sunny in Dana Point from early afternoon until sunset...seems like a good evening to go supercar spotting.

Nothing special with it today. But felt guilty parking it out in the open in the condo guest lot. Covered it up...its only for one night. The Alfa gets the garage spot since it was just washed and at 10 am tomorrow I end the lease and turn it in 4 months early. Its an absolutely great "modern" car...but I just can't fall in love with "modern." In sex they call it a condom. In cars, they call it "modern." The 996 is a car that makes me work for it. The little incidental down shifts and throttle blips are coming back, happening on their own second nature. Just getting into the car with a special little twist and scoop so as not to wear the bolster, the left foot finding the correct placement on the clutch...not too far back or left or right...but perfectly centered, my right foot realizing it has to lead the clutch by a half a second or so in normal traffic starts. The car looked great in the auction photos, but it reality its a ten footer, with several chip repairs and three dimples that are now more obvious. And actually I'm glad...having them happen on my watch would be a real pain in the butt...I'd feel compelled to get them fixed. Now I can relax and enjoy a great looking 20 year old car. In all honesty my perfect car would have been a 1975 Dino 308 gt4...but I've had and enjoyed my Ferrari days and that ship has now sailed. This 996 is perfect for this time in my life. And with the C4, I'm hoping we get a nice wet winter so I can play with it.

Took the 996 out for a (reasonably) early morning ~100 mile jaunt up to and through the Sam Houston National Forest, north of Houston. Absolutely perfect top-down weather -- sunny with temperatures right around 70F. Got back to the house and tucked her away in the garage ahead of the rain we'll be seeing the next 3-4 days thanks to TS "Beta".

Brought my C4 Cab back from the detailers. A previous owner had scraped my car's rims against curbs so I had the road rash corrected and repainted on two rims. $250.00 plus taxes. They did a fine job, I am happy.

Here's a picture--

Today I drove it like I used to drive my 993. It is all coming back. 98% there.

I had a good day. I got to drive both of my toys! It doesn't get much better than that.
