After my last experience getting pulled over (the cop let me go as soon as he noticed the dashcam), I'm a believer.
I got one of those ages ago with the V1. I was terribly guilty, but the V1 never made a peep. Cop starts giving me the whole "you know how fast you were going" schtick and as just getting to the good part when he noticed my V1:

Cop: What's that?
Me: This?
Cop: Yes
Me: A radar detector
Cop: You know those are illegal in this state?
Me: I do
Cop: May I see it?
Me: Hands it to him
Cop: Give me a minute
<walks back to his car for more like 10 minutes>
Cop: Ok. I'm going to let you off on the speeding, but you need to slow down.
Cop: His is your radar detector back and an equipment citation.

$25 ticket vs $500 minimum plus risk of jail time if I got a dick judge in that county. Worth it.

Not all cops are bad people, but there are certainly some dicks out there. At least these two examples were smart enough to realize they weren't likely to get away with it and backed down instead of doubling down.

The last time I got pulled over for speeding, I was doing (some speed over 80MPH) on the Silver Strand on a Sunday morning at about 7AM. I figured I was out early enough to beat Johnny Law - and I was wrong.

I shot past the bridge - and the MASSIVE sand dune thereafter - as my detector picked up the KA. I hauled my speed down via a 2-gear downshift and the e-brake (no brake lights). By the time Mr. Law caught me, I was doing the speed limit, which pissed him off TREMENDOUSLY.

Longer story short: $75 to Cuda's ticket attorney and it all went away.

Detectors and dashcams are cheap insurance...and if you KNOW you were being dumb, snap the micro SD card in half while you're waiting for the cop to put his thumbprint on your taillight...

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Nope. Knew I was speeding, but clearly knew that I knew he couldn't prove it.

In reality his bluff likely would have won out in court. Not sure "my radar detector never went off" would have been a solid defense.

I’ve been looking at Escort since they have a dash cam solution. Wish Uniden or Valentine offered a similar option.

Regarding radar detectors, the guys in the "know" I run with swear by the V1 without exception. Several of them have used other detectors previously, including Escorts (sometimes side-by-side with the V1). They use only V1s now. I also use a V1 and would buy another without hesitation; performance trumps looks for me.
Proud owner of a Flat6-powered 2002 996 Cab, 2016 GT4, 2019 Ford F-150 "Country Cadillac", and 2005 Ford Focus (not so hot hatch) daily driver. And a Wright ZTO 52" to keep several acres of grass-like substance neat and tidy!

I have much respect for the Valentine company, but for me, it came down to the V1 or the Escort Redline. I went with the Redline. One thing I loved about the Redline is that it has different sounds for the various types (e.g. Ka vs K) of radar. The alerts are lower frequency and have very intention grabbing "grunts" instead of just beeps.

Does the new V1 have this feature or is it still the classic "beeps"?
