I knew that would be your answer! Good thing our cars have such good brakes.

Left it in the garage - the shifting arm is still too pooched.

Had to settle for driving the time machine today...

Put some stuff on the window seals. Took a decent drive & ended up at the favorite watering hole with 91 octane ethanol-free goodness. Outside temp hit 92 today....and it actually did NOT rain today. Amazing.

Replaced the last of my control arms (tuning forks). An hour fiddle-farting around trying to figure out how to use the Pelican tutorial and get the covers off. Then only an hour per corner, the 5 yr olds constantly peppering me with questions, and a lot learned.

1) The Pelican photos are real useful
2) Take out the rear wheel arches
3) Rubber mallet for little taps to align holes and ball end
4) Takes some eyeballing to get ball end of rear arms to dangle the angle properly (snicker, snicker...he said ball, end, rear and dangle!)
5) Thin 21mm wrench to clear the space between body seam and frame for rear arms. I had to use a Craftsman Robogrip, and it worked flawlessly.
6) It helped me to use jack under wheel carrier and align the tuning fork end over the coffin arm hole.
7) Also used jack to lift the car just enough to raise the corner off of that stand to take out preload before torquing.
8) Take off brake ducts first

Only have the tie rods left to do. I took a long look at them and decided to pass. I’ll have the shop that’s doing the alignment install them. May not be so, but that looks harder to me than replacing all the other suspension parts.

So, after 12 months, the ‘intended’ 85,000 mile suspension redo (now 88,000+miles) will be complete. ROW M030 kit with X74 top mounts, and all new OE suspension parts. Gonna get it aligned with -1.0 camber, 8 caster, .10 toe front; -1.8 camber, .20 toe rear. Close to ‘05 GT3, but can keep all stock drops and sways.

Next project: Oil change time. What oil should I use? Spin-on or paper filter? Should I get a UOA? What else should I do while I’m in there?

JUST JOKING! But really doing the oil change w/ DT40, Napa Gold, Speed OA :o

Project update - got the rear speakers installed over the weekend. Knowing what to do helped - other than waiting for the glue to dry the whole job was probably only an hour or so. One very important step was to wear rubber gloves when working with the glue...

Finally I can listen to the radio! Also just received my package today from Crutchfield with the Sony double-din head unit and the install kit. Hopefully can get that done this week - lots of steps on that job but there are a couple of U-tube videos that seem like they show all the tricky parts.

Ha ha! Factory Amp? Door Speakers? My car was shipped with no (zero) options so I do not have either of these items, so that actually makes my job easier. Also it helps limit the sound quality to ‘70’s transistor radio quality. The good news is that I have two very nice additional door storage pockets that 99% of 99 owners do not have!

So in theory I should be able to plug the new radio into the existing wiring harness and be good to go. I paid Crutchfield to make the custom harness and adapters to the factory connectors, so hopefully will have no cutting and splicing. Biggest issue appears to be mechanical - just moving the HVAC controls and securing the double din bracket into the exiting dash opening.

Sounds great! Let us know if you have questions. Are going to be using the factory amp in the frunk? What about the door speakers?

Thanks - not sure how your reply got dropped off my previous post. Will shout if I get in in a bind!

Drove the 996 to a Kansas City PCA 'happy hour'. Not a huge turnout...which I thought unusual because the destination establishment DID have a liquor license.

There were just six of us to start, but the good news is that none of us knew the others. This was a GREAT way to meet and get to know some other local club members. Eventually two familiar faces joined us, but overall what I thought might be a dissapointing evening turned out really well.

Here's to new friends.....and great onion rings. :)

PS: hit the 83,000 mile mark during the drive home. Engine should explode any day now. :)

Did an easy and fun car improvement tonight - installed the non-smokers cubby in place of my ash tray. Now I actually have a useful place to put my car keys. Looking at the picture reminds me that I need to replace the parking brake handle too. Odd how the leather on it is destroyed - previous owner must have gotten something on it...
