When I was a kid, one of the springs on our old-school garage door snapped, broke the shackle off the hinge arm, and snapped a 2x6 rafter. This was a long time ago, before they had safety/retention cables to prevent crap like that from happening...
A roll up door?? Like a Roman shade? Like metal roll up door? Like this?

When that happened to me I thought a bomb went off. Freaking things are storing lots of tension.
I agree. When one spring broke at our current house(double sized door) I bout soiled my shorts!

No, smarty pants - a sectional door, as opposed to a one-piece tilt-up door. :P

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Ok like mine! Sectional...got it. When one of the two springs broke on my "sectional" door it sounded like a shotgun...not a 12 gauge more like a 20 gauge or perhaps a .410. Still scared the crap out of me!

BTW: That should be "Mr. Smarty Pants"...let's have a little respect for your elders!

The weather cleared enough to get the 996 out for about a 40 mile cruise today. I needed the outing to make up for getting a speeding ticket in my SUV on Valentine's Day - taking my son's two youngest kids to elementary school. Frunkenstein will appreciate that this was along Lamar just north of 79th, which is in the dreaded Prairie Village, KS jurisdiction. [another suburb of KC in Johnson County KS] PV has a zero-tolerance, revenue-driven law enforcement group that takes no prisoners. [many years ago, my wife got a ticket in Prairie Village for doing 38 in a 35 mph zone - truth]

I refused to stop until I at least got in front of the school, but I had to let them out in the damn snow because the eager beaver started his lights and siren, frightening my grandkids and those still on the sidewalks. What a putz.

But....the drive in the 996 today went really well...especially with the Valentine One on duty....which I plan on moving to the SUV for weekday duty tomorrow.

I'd love to go to court and confront Officer Putz, but that would be a waste of time. I'll likely hire a solicitor to bargain my way down to a non-moving violation, lest the insurance company impose a draconian increase in premium.

Draconian! I love that word. I worked for a VP who used it all the time to frighten people...it worked!

Picked these up from the wheel guy at noon. Can't wait to get them back on the car tonight.

The color is...light gunmetal, I guess. They look fantastic.
