What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Don't do it! I remember the good old days when I'd just take it in for a detail - but now I shame myself into doing it myself because I have all the gear.

And you save yourself $200 minimum. The last detail I went for was more than that and I felt like it lasted a week. Wheel rash is probably my number one exterior concern, followed by paint chips, and the plastic rubbing off the bottom of the front clip (steep driveway).

Speaking of microfiber towels, I learned something important a couple of weeks ago at a detailing seminar we had here at the auto museum. Did you know that if you put a microfiber towel in the dryer at over 140 degrees temperature, it basically melts the microfibers and ruins the towel? I had no idea as I'm sure I've run my detailing towels through the dryer on high heat on a regular basis.

Spent hours trying to pinpoint two oil leaks, one on each bank...What a pain the butt/back!
From the engine bay it's impossible to see anything with all that's in the way. From underneath, it's impossible to see anything with my shitty vision and cramped space with a hot exhaust.
After getting the area cleaned up, I had to pull the bumper, heat shields and took it for a quick spin then pulled the muffler (actually pretty simple stuff) Cam bore plugs blew out a few months ago and where replaced using a 3M yellow sealant recommended by Ptech3. Yup, that's it, oil leaking and spraying all over the place under load. Not much room to try and pick/pry a flat bore pugged sealed in place.

Has anyone else had this issue with the big bore plugs blowing out?

Now on to bank one which is going to be even more challenging.

Other than that, my car is running strong, but I can't wait for my 3.8 from Jake!

No I didn't and this totally makes sense why I feel like my towels feel more rough after first use. Now I get to explain to my wife why I'm buying another 100 pack so soon.

I guess browsing all those detailing web sites before I retired was time well spent. I've always used low heat or no heat with the MF's and sometimes hang dry them on a rack I fashioned. When they get less absorbent or rough feeling, they get rotated to wheel or metal polishing duty. Fiber content makes a difference, too. Our local guy sells a brand that is 70/30 microfiber/poly as opposed to the usual 80/20.

Like I said....it can become.....an obsession.

Damn. Really? I have the giant package of yellow Costco microfiber towels, and they go into the dryer on high with the old bath towels that also get car drying duty. Now it sounds like my yellow towels are no good? And how can you tell?

Also, MF cloths need to be laundered separate from cotton towels...or anything else. The micros can pick up fibers from the towels and become just as scratchy as a common bath towel....which should never touch a car body.....except maybe a Mustang.

There are YouTube vids galore on detailing and microfiber care...and like anything else, there are more opinions than facts.
