I think next time I park the car I'm not going to engage the brake, just leave it in gear. If it still clunks, that eliminates the PB as a suspect.
Cool! Funny thing... the same thing occurs on my Volvo when I release the electric parking brake. Doesn't do it all the time, but if I've washed the car or it's been sittin' out in the weather, never fails... the clunk sounds happens.

If you need to do more than 80mph to get to a Cub Scout meeting, maybe you should plan ahead and leave a tad earlier

Such a lovely sound near red line in 3rd :D

I think its coming from the passenger side front wheel. It happens only once when the car first moves, and not again. No CELs. It feels like the brake caliper freeing itself up. It hasn't been super cold but the car is in an unheated garage. Is the caliper freezing up? I am noticing a little rust on the front rotors, which i changed over the summer. Could that be it?
Ours does that when it has been sitting for awhile. I've always chalked it up to the rotors having a nice patina at that point since it lives outside. The brakes are also rough and less effective than normal while I ride them for a few hundred feet to clean them off. After that, no issues.

Yeah, but that's a Volvo. Those things run on pickled herring and seasonal affective disorder. Thanks for help, let's see what happens.

It occurs to me that although I want to spend as much time as possible in my car, I try to get where I am going as fast as I can. It's like an oxymoron on wheels (emphasis on moron).

+2 for normal. Also, as an aside, unless necessary to prevent unplanned escape I wouldn't set my parking brake(break) for long periods of "storage" even in a garage as I have heard numerous horror stories. Moisture, metal and rust bad mix for brakes(breaks)!

Ugh. Always set the brake unless another secondary system (e.g. chocks) is being used!

Seen too many manuals pop out of gear and even seen an automatic have it's parking "gear" break.

Nothing like leaning on a car that you aren't expecting to move and having it roll off into something or watching a car that had been parked for hours suddenly roll down the hill it was parked on.

There is much to be said for flat ground. There is a lot of that out here in the prairie!
