Help needed regarding M96 Serial Number

Good morning all of my 996 experts. Here is the serial number off my motor. Can tell me how to identify the manufacturing date from this number? Just curious if this is the original motor or a replacement by Porsche. I don't have any records on the car... unfortunately.

There would be an "AT" in it if it was a factory reman replacement, so it is an original motor. I think you have to go to Porsche to find out if it belongs to that car or not.

I believe there is a way to deduce at least the year, but I don't know it. I know Jake posted a lot of related details about the meanings of the numbers, but I don't recall the thread.

No way to tell from the number by itself. Porsche does offer a "Certificate of Authority" (or some similar name) service where you pay them some money (actually pretty reasonable as I recall for something with a Porsche logo on it...) and they send you a paper with all the info (build date, option list, etc..) including the motor serial.

You can also get such a document from Suncoast called Suncoast Vin Service. Maybe $15. Cover original build info, serial numbers, options...I thought it was well worth the money. They email it to you so service was quick. It was on the front of their website. in 2014. Not sure now.

I don't think the Suncoast VIN service is anything different than what you can run yourself... But no engine info.

Swap your VIN for ZZZ, works on most 2002 and later Porsches.

^^Thanks man, I've already got the build sheet for options. I think Gnat is right in that the "662" in the number would mean 2002. Looks like it's the original motor.
