On my1999 hood sticker, it reads 66X for the engine and G9600 which is the transmission type. I don't think the engine serial number is on the hood sticker.
Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker

Re: Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker
Wow, thought all original engine s/n were printed on the hood tag. Mind taking a picture and posting? Thanks!

It's there. (see picture)
Hard to make it out, but it looks like - M96/01-66W-G9600-00
This means your motor was manufactured early in 1998.

Re: Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker
The next thing you'll want to do is match that number with the serial number that is printed on the motor.
You maybe onto something regarding that middle number being a trans code instead of the serial number! You have me thinking now. Gotta look that up!

Re: Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker
Here's my Frunk tag....
Looks like mine actually is - M96/03-662-G960-10
Maybe that third set is supposed to be "G9600"???

Re: Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker
I found this on the PCA site when somebody asked the same question.
The sticker on the hood tells the engine and transmission code, that is, what TYPE was being installed when built. It does not show the actual serial number of either one. Those only appear on the engine & gearbox.

Re: Engine number doesn’t match hood sticker
Based on *NEW* information pointed out by GH996, here's what I think based on your information shared.
One, your hood tag number "66X69600" is actually 66X - G9600 which means a 1999 motor with Getrag manual transmission.
Next, Perimeter Porsche states that the original motor installed had a Serial Number of "66X06108". This is coming directly from the serial number stamped on the *original* motor installed from the factory.
Finally, the current motor in the car is "66X15987" which really means... You had ONE and only ONE engine swap.
MYSTERY SOLVES. or has it?
