The rear deck lid is also controlled by an electric actuator similar to the frunk, and so, did you use the fuse box jumper to open the rear deck lid and then jump off the car?
I found the cable under the tail light the previous day (didn't know about powering the system from the rear at the time)
Ahhhh... nice! Great find!

Normally, the manual lock cable for the rear deck lid routes behind the driver's side rear fender liner. Accessing this cable means you have to remove the wheel and finder lining. I'm sure you could probably remove the liner with the wheel on the car, but that could get messy. And, unfortunately, many 996 owners keep the key lug in the frunk and find themselves in a pickle if the battery does dead. With the battery dead, they're locked out of the frunk (as you've experienced first hand) and then, to make matters worse, they can't remove the rear wheels to access and remove the fender well liner.... to access the manual lock cable - to access the engine compartment - to jump the car off... and, as you've found out, the fuse box jumper option is an unreliable method of jumping off the car. And get this...if I'm not mistaken, the 996 has lock actuators on both doors. Many 996 owners have been locked out of their cars after long storage and realize that they can't even access the car's interior. They end up having the break the glass. Can you believe that?!

Now you know why many 996 owners go insane! hahaha

Oil filter looked great, same for the sump. Turned the crank and could hear what sounded like a broken chain but I could only turn it back and fourth about a 1/4 turn before I could feel it bind up.

Now how the hell does one get the third ac compressor bolt out?

Bill, I sure I am not the only one here that would appreciate the pics of what you are doing. Makes the posts much more informative and immersive for the members. Snap a few pics when you are disassembling the engine at each step por favor.

LoL, want me to increase the font size too?

I actually pulled out the old camera and my battery no longer holds a charge (like my car) and my Flip phone...well you get the picture ;)

Heh. The wife's DSLR is so old we actually can't get new batteries for it. If she doesn't use the flash (do have an external flash that takes more standard batteries) she can get about 20 shots with it. With the built-in flash it's like 3.

She still loves it though...
