Sale/Purchase Pricing Data and Advice

Post by 5chn3ll » Wed Jan 10, 2018 9:29 am

996 pricing is currently all over the place. Older, high-mileage cars are selling for pennies on the dollar, while solid examples are starting to see higher prices, especially at auction.

If you've recently bought or sold your 996 and you're comfortable sharing, please post your pricing details.

If you're looking to buy (or sell) a 996, and you're wondering about value, post up the details and we'll do our best to help.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

1999 996 w/ approx 45K miles. I paid $30k in September of 2012, which is a LOT for a '99 996, but I couldn't walk away from the car.

As-ordered, it was a base-model Carrera 4 with minimal options. The previous owner installed the Aerokit II, aftermarket suspension, 19" wheels, an IPD plenum, and several other odds and ends.

Sold March 2015 for $15,750: 1999 C4 factory aerokit car, black on black, 6 speed, 148,000 miles on the odometer but only roughly 70,000 miles on the engine (engine failure was not IMSB related - the owner ran over a tire tread on the highway and knocked the oil filter housing off, starving the engine of oil).

Exterior probably a 8 out of 10, interior 8 out of 10, mechanically very sound with recent clutch and engine out service. Not a perfect car, but a nice, solid car that drove very well. Comfort leather interior was holding up well, but wear on the driver's seat left bolster. Leather covered dash with minor leather separation around the speakers. Aluminum e-brake and gearshift surround. Stock CDR-23 stereo. Lowered ride height. For that sale price, I wish I would have kept it.

I sold my 2002 C2, Arctic Silver/Black, manual coupe with 41,000 miles on it July 2017 for $28,500. I had installed a new clutch, water pump, AOS and the IMS Solution when it had 31,000 miles on it. I also had recently installed new engine mounts and replaced coils and plugs. Great example of a low mileage, well maintained car and I eliminated all concern permanently about the dreaded (you know what) by installing the IMS Solution

Try $103k for an 01 on for size!

Of course that was in 2000 dollars, did only have 6 miles on it, and was optioned exactly as desired
