Shit, I think my car was totalled today

Post by Cuda911 » Tue Aug 28, 2018 4:07 pm

Waiting at a light to turn right. Car behind me short- stops, car behind her smashes into her, pushing hers into mine. Shit.

Nah, not totaled. Their insurance won't be happy though. Probably in the $3500 range would be guess (though I can't speak to costs in CA which could screw with that estimate).

Sorry for the hit though. That sucks

Is the sheet metal above the bumper cover - the right rear quarter - damaged at all above the bumper cover? That's the big-ticket item for that part of the car (assuming the engine is OK, and I don't notice any fluids).

Regardless - still having an open insurance claim nearly 9 months after the Jeep got nailed - sorry.

Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

$7250 is my guess on the final repair bill.

Closest without going over, right?

I bid $19,177 Bob.

And Cuda, very sorry to see this. Your car is beautiful - very nice condition and the blue really pops in the sun.

Ouch Cuda... sorry about this!

When I was having a dent repaired in the rear corner, the shop said it’s more labor intensive to repair that section because Porsche uses a double metal layer design to help protect the engine.

Damn! That Sux! I think I watch my rearview mirror more than looking out the windshield waiting for some texting troglodyte to crash into the back of me. I hope it works out. That is a beautiful car. Sorry!

I know very little about this, but I do know they will measure the frame and make a determination. I had to have my car measured after a suspension issue couldn't be diagnosed and ended up being the rear subframe was deformed 5mm on exactly one bolt and that threw the whole damn car off. They told me to go buy a lottery ticket for the fact that it wasn't the tub. I hope this isn't your tub that's bent..

That said - due to the revelation of the ripple in the skin on the side, the metal is probably stretched but a good body man may be able to pull it back out without damaging it further. I'll say a hair under $10k is my guess.

Just kidding - tree fiddy.
