Questionable Rotor Wear

Post by sweet victory » Tue Jan 30, 2018 2:49 pm

Photo below is the rear driver side rotor. All rotors have the same "wavey" pattern. The grooves are "in line" with the hole; it's as if dust/FOD got trapped between the pad and rotor through the hole and it's left a groove in the rotor. This is my first car equipped with cross drilled rotors, so I'm not sure if this is considered normal wear. All pads have 6+mm of pad material left and rotors have a small lip on the O.D. No vibration or anything that would cause alarm. Just an inquiring mind.

Looks about correct for that rotor type. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just when its time to do the pads, do the rotors as well. I see it at work all the time. Even if they are within measurement spec, replace. Wont give a "perfect" contact with the new pads.

Totally normal. Replace rotors when out of spec (2mm or more of wear measured in few spots on the rotor).

Yes! Don't replace them because your pads are gone. Your rotors will last longer than a set of pads. Check the thickness, proceed accordingly.

Was going to do a pad replacement when doing my next oil change. What is the spec rotor thickness?
