First post, Does anyone drive their 96TTs in winter?

Post by Hotshot » Fri Aug 09, 2019 10:04 pm

Hello,

New to the Porsche world and this site. After a ton of research, My plan is to get a 996TT and use it like a half daily driver 8 months a year. I’m in the Toronto area so winter happens from Nov-March.

Any of you folks put snows on and winter drive it? If so how is it? My friend daily’s a GTR in hellish winter and just under washes it a lot with out issue..

Thx.

Hi Hotshot, and Welcome!

I drive my 996tt year round here in KC, and it does fine in the cold. But I don’t drive the 996ttin the snow. Mainly that’s because I have several other cars and want to keep the 996tt nice. That being said, my previous 996 was a ‘99 C4. I drove it in the snow and it had basically the same AWD system as the 996tt. I just had all-season tires on it and it did very well. I think a 996tt with winter tires would do fine in snow up to maybe 5 inches.

Keep in mind, though, that the AWD system really is designed for track use rather than inclement weather.

Don’t be a stranger.

Can't comment on the TT, but can confirm that the C4 AWD is just fine. I'm outside DC and actually get away with PS2s (summer performance) year round. Just make sure your tires are in good condition and you drive appropriate for the circumstances.

As far as snow depth, measure to the underside of the front bumper. That will be the absolute maximum, but I'd avoid driving about half that so you have some headroom.

Our C4 lives outside and I simply knock the snow behind it down below the tail pipes and it will back through to the street with no drama.

I assume all that is true for the TT, just have to watch the throttle more.

The TT996 makes for a great snow plow!
