Other than KC, does anyone here have any experience with 2008-2010 gts models? Looks like DI engine fixed the coolant tubes, but there is another coolant pipe that breaks. I saw a few driving around, they sure do sound good. And in red, look good. But, one visit to RL cayenne section, and I lost my erection.

I have a 958 which was a complete redesign, but did follow the 955/957.

The coolant tubes aren't really much of an issue as long as you address it BEFORE they fail. If they fail you have a royal mess as it dumps the coolant on your transmission and xfer case which kills their seals. It also gets your alternator, but that effect is usually immediate while the trans and xfer damage can pop up well down the road.

So if you are looking at one then make sure to have an Indy that is familiar with that specific failure confirm if there are signs of a previous failure. If there is and there is no documentation for the trans/xfer seals being replaced, plan accordingly.

The V8s also have a bore scoring issue just like the 996s (I think the turbos had extra oiling bits that prevented it or at least made it less likely) and all of them have a tendency to need new center support bearings for the drive shafts.

Otherwise they are pretty solid vehicles. My only complaint with them is that the interior design really did not age well in my opinion (some weird cross between the spartan 996 interior and a bunch of comfort/entertainment bits).

If you like the look of the 958 (most that think the 955/957 looks good don't), look into those as prices are really dropping now that the replacement is out. They are lighter, more powerful, and fixed most of annoyances of the older models. A 2013 GTS in Peridot is absolutely stunning in person too :mrgreen:

The center support bearing issue was a big deal initially, which I think can now be downgraded to "annoyance." There is something called a "Jimi Fix" that I did to my blue '06 S that literally cost $5 and about an hour to do. To do it with actual replacement parts, I think it is about $500 or so. Knock on wood, but both of our '06 Cayenne S models have held up well, been very reliable and downright cheap to maintain.

You should be able to get an '08-'10 model pretty reasonably at this point. I don't know what percentage were the GTS model, so that might up the ante a little bit if you insist on that model. Manheim (dealer auction) pricing guide says an average '08 GTS will have about 129k miles and will sell at wholesale for around $12,900. Bump that mileage down to 95,000, and the wholesale price goes up to $15,200. For a '10 GTS, average mileage goes down to 85k miles and the wholesale price goes up to $19,150. So, in the low $20ks, you should be able to get a pretty nice one.

I like the 957 better than the 955, and the 958 model looks better yet. Porsche seems to be steadily improving the Cayenne.

957 looks good on outside, but interior indeed is circa 2003. 958 does look better, but is is double the price. Locally the 2008 Gts is on sale for $19k, 2013 is at $36k.

At $36k it becomes a lot less appealing, as I know come two years later and it is worth $19k.

At $36k, that's new STI territory. And Ive been stalking that at couple local dealers lately. My research showed that STI has one of the best resale values out there, and I am tempted to come in this January with $40k cash for new 2018 premium WRC blue car. Drive it for 5 years with warranty, then sell it for $30k.

Oh yeah. If you hunt around for a long time there is the super rare 6MT for the 957 GTS, though the manual they used in the Cayennes seems to get mixed reviews as most say it is has a gated feel.

Definitely not a fan of the solid smooth glass touch screen for the lower console and the ass is exceptionally ugly in my opinion.

Other newer != better things with the 958:
1) Rear seats don't fold flat.
2) D-pillar is more raked cutting out "head" room in the cargo area.
3) Hatch glass does not open independently to allow access to the cargo area without opening the full hatch (problematic if you have a hitch rack full of stuff)
4) While the 955/957 interior is very dated looking, the 958 has WAY too many buttons (6 years next week and I still have to take my eyes off the road to find stuff :x )
5) If you want to off road, the 955 is the one to get as they continue to get less capable in regards to the transfer case

Hmm, this requires thinking. I couldn't find much quality cars I had in my other thread, so I don't have my hopes up on Gts either.

I won't buy one thats more than two owners, has limited history, has lived in the snow state or was ever in accident. So pool of potential cars shrinks dramatically for me.

957 Gts with 70k miles, one owner and full service history, red from AZ/TX/NM for $20k could be fun. Good 🏂 and 🏕 car.
