Just got an email from Porsche about the new 911.
It was shocking enough that there is no manual transmission option (guess that makes the 991 the new "last real 911"?), but they are now charging you to add a sunroof and/or rear wiper rather than it being a no cost option to remove.
Strange and crazy world we live in!

Re: New 911
I spent about 2 minutes looking at the announcement and web page. Then figured since I wouldn't be able to afford it until it gets to be at least 10 years old that pile of work on my desk was more relevant.

Re: New 911
I'm sure it's fun as hell to drive, but it looks huge. Not a fan of the rear view. Manual is coming, but they roll out PDK first? Seems odd. As many have said, seems more GT than sportscar.

My guess is that they'll offer a MT in one of the bazillion special editions that they do (GTS, GT, Black, etc..), but that it is gone from the standard cars.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:38 am I'm sure it's fun as hell to drive, but it looks huge. I agree on the sizing. By itself I don't really notice the 991's size, but you park a 996 next to it and the 991 looks like a Crown Vic
The GT vs SC argument has been going on at least since the 996 (and look how spartan those are now!), but I think that final transition happened with the 991.1 actually. That thing is loaded with all kinds of driver aids and comfort features. It is still exceptionally capable (which I assume this new one is too), but it's clearly targeted to being an ever day cruiser rather than a track car that happens to be street legal.
So if this new 911 is going to be the new 996, does that mean the 996 is the new 964?

Have you watched the live launch video on YouTube? Porsche introduces use as the car with "fried-egg" headlights.gnat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 9:06 am Just got an email from Porsche about the new 911.
