Capacitors are fun. Back when I was an electrician apprentice in the dark ages on the RR. We would charge up smallish capacitors with a meggar and drop them in the back pockets of other guys wearing coveralls. It was good fun when they tried to pull the cap back out! Luck we didn't give anybody a heart attack.gnat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 1:07 pmYeah caps are fun. I "accidentally" got a classmate good with 3 I wired in series to the on/off switch of the project
In addition to zapping the shit out of him it also caught the project on fire due to it overloading the 80s circuit board which of course made the whole thing doubleplusfunny
That you have to use some serious caps is what has kept me from building a rail gun...

Heh. Electricity is always good for a laugh when it's the other guy.
None of my "city slicker" buddies in high school grew up around agriculture/farming. One of my high school friends got married a couple of years after graduation; 5 or 6 of my old friends and I wound up in shitkick, Tennessee for the event and as fate would have it, there was a confluence of liquor, stupid people, and an electric fence.
There are three kinds of people when it comes to electric fences:
* People who understand electric fences
* People who don't understand electric fences and have no need to understand electric fences
* People who don't understand electric fences despite a compelling need to understand electric fences.
My buddy Omar moved from the second to the third category abruptly one evening. He made the classic city slicker mistake: brush the fence once, really quickly, to see if it is "really electric" and, once satisfied, grab it and get the shit shocked out of you. He grabbed it with his right fist, and I waited...one mississi"FUCK**OW!!!**" and then Omar is sitting suddenly in the weeds.
He favored that arm for the rest of the trip.

Since the fence will control a 1200# cow it's pretty effective at getting the attention of a 180# drunken idiot. I'm just guessing here...5chn3ll wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 9:55 am Heh. Electricity is always good for a laugh when it's the other guy.

Oh I've got electric fence stories!
First I'll add a 4th group to your list. Poor unsuspecting girls I had an interest in. I have odd ways of showing affection and when available telling them that the fence is turned off (when it's not) was one of them. Odd that I never had many girlfriends back then...
Another favorite is that my dad got a Yellow Lab while we were in NY. He was a fucking idiot, generally a good dog, but he made morons look like Einstein. We also had my first horse and his paddock had a 2 wire (upper and lower) electric fence with the lower wire about 8" from the ground. Our Aussie would simply jump between the 2 wires with never a worry. Ranger on the other hand would try to belly crawl under the bottom wire and would get bit from nose to tail. He would then go sit in the middle of the paddock and refuse to move for a few hours, then he would repeat the process to get back out, and he would repeat this again the next day. This went daily for over a year.

I'ma contravene your list modification and suggest that those girls are definitely part of group #3.

Re: Ebike Conversion - My K2 Attack 2.0 w/ 48v 1000 watt front hub motor and 4x sealed lead-acid batteries
I need to print up some Clarkson cards with "What's the worst that could happen?" on one side and "How hard can it be?" on the other...
