Good to know. They advertise that it does SRS/Airbag. Do you know if it works for later models? I was thinking about getting one for our two 2006 Cayennes.

Re: Airbag Light
Good advice from everyone. More than likely, the airbag light was triggered by someone disconnecting one of the devices linked to the SRS system. More than likely, someone removed the seat and then make the mistake of turning the car on before reconnecting the seat. The seat belts are linked to the SRS system and disconnecting and starting the car will cause the airbag light to come on. As others have mentioned, you'll need a scanner than can read the SRS module to reset it. I purchased one from Autel - https://www.auteltech.comjlasinski wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 7:59 am Hello everyone. Just purchased my first Porsche, 1999 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with 54,000 miles. Car runs and drives great. Only issue I have is the airbag icon is lit in the dash. I believe due to the fact the battery was disconnected while the new top was installed. Not sure, but none the less, what do I need to do to turn it off? Do I need to take to a dealer or mechanic? How much would that cost? Is there a handheld I could get or does anyone have one I can borrow? I live in the St. Louis, MO area. Thanks, John

It's been a lifesaver, I use it on both my Porsche and Volvo cars. It's great device. Just make sure you order the right one. Some are for US cars and others are for European cars. Most of these can be purchased for well under $200.00.
Cheers!

Why not just walk next door tonight when you get home from work and ask him?gnat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 10:42 amOOooohh!!!! Since your boy works for VAG now, any chance he could use connections to help me get a PIWIS-III for something less than the forty bagillion dollars Porsche wants???FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 9:43 am For about the cost of what the dealer or even an indy will likely charge you to reset the light, and about half the cost of a Durametric, you could buy an iCarsoft scanner for Porsche ($145):

Re: Airbag Light
b3freak, that is probably the case. They repaired the leather on the drivers seat and probably did exactly what you said. Now to get it turned off. Thanks, John

Re: Airbag Light
Yep, pretty common mistake. Get yourself a good scanner - the best out there is the Durametric, but if you're trying to keep it under $200, then I'd get an Autel that will read the modules in the Porsche. I've found that cheap scanners won't read all of the modules and of course, won't reset the airbag light. This one seems like it will do the trick for under $150.00 -

Re: Airbag Light
Check with the manufacturer before you buy. Some of their units only work on 996 Turbos and most of them don't work on any 996's. I would ask the ebay seller if he has personally used it on a 996 for Porsche-specific functions.jlasinski wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:15 am Found this on eBay. Guy says it works on the 996. Only $110

Don't buy it! That was the first scanner I bought and it would NOT communicate to all of the Porsche 996 modules. In my opinion, if you don't want to fork out the money for a Durametric, then purchase the Autel scanner. Just my 2 cents. Good luck buddy!

Re: Airbag Light
Since this is becoming a diagnostic tool thread...
Has anyone tried AutoEnginuity? It's a PC based diagnostic program for many makes and models - they even offer a Porsche Enhancement Package. I've been really curious to give it a try. At $249, it's cheaper than the Enthusiast Durametric, isn't limited to how many vehicles you can use it on, and will support other marques. The Porsche enhancement is an additional $229 and looks quiet comprehensive; on par with Durametric Professional. It'd be $257 cheaper and again...isn't limited to Porsche vehicles.
