996 Outpost Tomfoolery at CFOS in March

Post by 5chn3ll » Fri Jan 25, 2019 2:18 pm

After the epic fail that was RennRun 2018, I'm reluctant to even suggest another event - but since at least a few of us will be at California Festival of Speed in Fontana, maybe we can have a low-key beer consumption event.

I'm considering borrowing my brother-in-law's giant-ass RV for on-site camping at Auto Club Speedway, but that's all hypothetical at this point. I'll be working the grid 2 days and leading track tours again on Saturday, so I'll probably order up another ridiculously large 996Outpost.com decal.

So...let's start a CFOS roll-call. Who is coming?

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

If you have NO idea what CFOS is:

The California Festival of Speed is the Porsche enthusiasts dream weekend. Club Race, Time Trial, Swap meet, Porsche Corral, Porsches For Sale, Porsche Timeline Display, Vendor Row, Track Tours, Friends, Fun and all things Porsche. Need we say more? This event has race cars, show cars, it can even have your car! See the cars, meet the drivers and experience the excitement!

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

I've been going every year since I moved to CA. Last year I met Ralph Gilles, the head of design for Chrysler, while I was there. I didn't have it in my to ask why they have so many ugly cars.

I will probably definitely give it my utmost attention in deciding if I will consider thinking about the possibility of maybe equivocally answering if I might be weighing the idea of ... aww fuck it. You know I'm not going

I thought that Tomfoolery was now a Class-B felony in California.

The CFOS volunteer wrangler, Janice, deserves a shout-out for being really cool.

My adult (late teen) nephew is legally blind; I know from previous rides in my cars that he enjoys a bit of exuberant driving just as much as I do. I wanted to check with Janice to see if there was any way she could preregister us for the track tour on Friday or Sunday; I figured he would get a serious kick from just riding along as a track tour participant.

Instead, Janice suggested having him ride with me on Saturday (I'm leading tours that day) and having him handle the radio. She's going to get him on the volunteer roster for Saturday (for a shout-out from the track announcer, hopefully) and a volunteer T-shirt.

So, Janice, if you ever see this: You're aiight.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

It really is nice when people do good things that they don't really have to do. Good story. :)

Looks like I scored RV parking for Thursday through Sunday, so the beer will be cold and the chili will be hot...
