All,
The 997 rubber-ish HVAC buttons (temperature/fan) develop a gooey texture that eventually wear and cause unsightly white marks - Many threads about these on RL.
*The original buttons on my new to me 2005 997 S are close to perfect - not one scratch or imperfection.
So I've decided to never touch them and suffer thru the cold and heat. I figure this should add a good $5-$8k to the resale value.
That's all....

Yea, I never understood why Porsche couldn't create simple little plastic parts better... it's one thing to create an engine that has serious flaws, but little 2 cent plastic buttons and knobs? haha
Those rubberized buttons are so prone to lose their coatings in the 997 huh? Seems like 9 out of every 10 I've seen for sale have this problem. Reminds me of the Becker radio knobs that get sticky over time.

Yeah BMW loves that soft touch crap too. Always wears off and makes a 3 year car look like it's 20

I removed and cleaned my CDR-220's sticky control knob with denatured alcohol (carefully), let it dry, and then sprayed it with Bumper Kote from Autozone, which is basically plastic spray paint. The color is a dead match for the 996 radio controls.

Re: 997 HVAC Buttons
The 997 knobs have translucent "TEMP" and "picture of fan" on the knobs which the dash lights shine thru at night. So just spraying them would hide them at night.
I guess if mine ever wear I could spray em and call them "Hellen Kellers" - might add some value when I sell.
