How about the starter on a 9PA (955) Cayenne (and probably 957, too)? You probably know better than I because I haven't had to change one yet, but it is my understanding that it is an engine-out job (or close to it).gnat wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2019 1:41 pmPlease.
Ford engineers apparently believed that alternators NEVER fail. Especially when you put them on the bottom of the motor in a vehicle that can be used off road.
In my old 04 Escape I had to replace the alternator 4 times. You have to remove the passenger wheel. Remove the half shaft. Unbolt the motor and then jack it up 6". The factory alternator price with dealer markup was $150. The labor was $900
What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Every 6 months? Wow, you NA 996 guys are meticulous! I think the standard for the TurBros is once per year or 3,000 miles. Don't tell anyone, but I think I went an entire 18 months and 4,000 miles on my last oil change.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 6:23 am Changed the oil! Not 2000 miles on the oil, but its been six months so out it went. I found a great place to empty / buy new oil, which was the crappiest part of this job. Recycle your oil! But we don't want it!
For once I didn't get a significant amount of oil on the driveway, so I am not in the doghouse.

I haven't found a way to remove all the metal filings without changing the oil - if there is a trick for that, please let me know.

No idea about the starter since I'm high rollin in a 958... Oh... wait... it's 6.5 now and thanks to VW it is approaching the $30k markFRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2019 9:24 amHow about the starter on a 9PA (955) Cayenne (and probably 957, too)? I hear that the alternator in them is a royal PITA though as it is water cooled.

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
Today? Drove it. Hot, dusty and all. Went to visit a Mercedes Club friend laid up in a physical rehab facility, then went to pick up my son's three kids from Tomahawk Elementary. I wish I would have had the presence of mind to take pics. I got sidetracked talking to a nice guy driving a nice VW sedan. He had a lot of questions about the 911.
As my cargo arrived, each one had a few friends come along to take a look at the car. Their celebrity status at school apparently went up a few points. Fun.
The car is filthy, but it's going to stay that way. Driving to the Porsche Club breakfast tomorrow even if we get the torrential rains that are forecasted.

Damn! And I thought the single core Mac Mini I ran in my old Escape was overkill for powering my tunes!
