Re: DIY IMS Solution Install
I had my first “oh shit” moment. Not the dangerous kind, but the I’m going to have to reassemble and torque some of these bolts that I have almost zero room to access kind. I have a feeling that reassembly my not go very fast at certain points. I already miss driving C4S.

Re: DIY IMS Solution Install
This happened today. Although I think I’m doing some wrong. If I recall from Rennlist (dammit), I’m supposed to have my shirt off when working with trannies.

Dual mass flywheel is next. I’ll tackle it tonight or tomorrow. It will also be replaced.

Re: DIY IMS Solution Install
Yesterday was a fairly long day. The dual flywheel came off after came off after locking the engine in TDC. With the flywheel off, I had the first few of the IMS flange and the RMS. The IMS flange was leaking pretty bad and the RMS was a little moist. I followed the directions provided with the IMS Solution. I left the tensioner in place under the AC compressor, but removed the two lower tensioners.
A previous owner had a Classic IMS Retrofit installed. From the outside, it looks good, but it is noisy and sounds like it might have a loose ball bearing. I need to pull the seal off. The service interval for the classic is 4 years or 50,000. I was beyond the 4 year mark and close to the 50,000 miles based an estimate of the serial number.
The IMS Solution install was very straight forward and a pretty simple install. I did have issues getting the flange to fit with the fitting after notching the engine case. I had to notch, renotch, and not again. That was probably the longest part of the process. I was a little worried about cutting too much.
