Sticking with today's theme of white convertibles, today I spent some quality time with our E30 cab. We bought it back in June 1999, right before max$wag was born. Anyhow, it is often relegated to red-headed stepchild status, but she always cleans up nicely.

Speaking of max$wag, I have convinced him that since he is studying mechanical engineering in college, he would learn a lot from doing a TB/WP on the E30. I've even offered to pay him the princely sum of $250 for labor. Stay tuned.

Lastly, I made 3 short trips in the X1/9 today. Since I recently came into an extra indoor parking spot, I may just keep it. It's really like having a go-kart - so much fun to drive.

Very nice. I’m a fan of the e30s. Friend of mine won a brand new one in high school, it was a booster raffle. So here you have a 17YO driving around in a brand new red 325i vert in 1990. Funny part is he was working as a caterer at the event when he won it.

Nice white convertible E30! Looks like a ton of fun, and bet it weighs a lot less than the 911!

Alright, I'm a little late posting this but I picked up the car last week and drove her home! My wife absolutely did not want to fly, so we drove 800 miles down, and 800 miles back. A lot of fun. Also, we didn't want to drive a boring SUV all that way, so we "rented" an RS5.

Trying this post on my phone, let's see if I can figure out how to add pics

Love the white convertibles! Had to be a fun trip driving through the post-apocalyptical virus zombie wasteland for 800 miles with little traffic. I see that a bunch of bugs gave their lives for your trip
Enjoy the new car! Is the S5 a keeper too, or are you giving that back to CarMax this week?

Looks great! Always liked E30's - when I was in sales in the mid '80's at the MB dealership we always had a bunch of nice used BMW's in our high-end used car area. My three favorites were the E30 cabrio, the E30 M3, and the M6. Would have never guessed back then that a nice E30 M3 would be considered a collectors item, but they are fun to drive. The manual top on a E30 is a great, simple design if I remember correctly as well. Sometimes I wish our 996's had a manual top.

I agree. While the power top on a convertible is really cool, you never, ever have to worry about your top getting stuck in the up, down or middle position with a manual top. Frankly, with a soft top, it should always just be manual. I get it with the hard convertible tops that you need help, but the soft tops are easy to lift and fold manually.

Congrats! I feel like I can't stand up too quickly after looking at a white Carrera... head's all loopy. Freaking gorgeous man. Drive her in most excellent health.

That's funny - I wonder what everybody was thinking when he walked up to the stage to accept.
And yes, in case you're wondering, although I like the white, I'd prefer to have this one in red, also.

Thanks. It ain't the quickest ride in town since it has a slushbox. But, it is a lot of fun cruising around on a nice day. Since it doesn't have an airbag, I was able to drive slowly around the cul-de-sac with my kids on my lap doing the steering. You can't do that with a modern car. Hopefully I'll be able to do that someday with grandkids (but not for another 10 years).

You would have loved my last iX then (red coupe).

Well... Maybe not what with the NJ special stereo install and body shop work.

Anyone that thinks these things are little go carts needs to pull everything except the driver seat and dash out. Damn fun ride with all that extra weight removed

Ewww... MT conversion is supposed to be super easy in the e30. Might as well do the s52 swap while you're in there

Guess I'm a terrible dad then. Oldest has "driven" the 996 and the P!g.

I think there's little risk if you are riding the brake and the driving is being done in a wide-open area. But, it would be a really hard sell to the wife if something bad happened . . . :(

I guess if you moved the seat far enough back so that there was 12" of space between the kiddo and the steering wheel hub, it might only break their arms.
