I don't have schematics for the NA 996, so these notes are from a Turbo. I believe they should be correct IF your car has electric frunk & engine bay unlocking. If you have the pull handles, I don't know.
The engine bay, glove compartment, and frunk lights are all wired together. When one is on they all are on. They are controlled from the alarm module.
They are on the same fuse as all the other interior lights.
What does this mean?
If any interior lights work the fuse is OK.
If you open the engine bay and the engine bay light comes on check to see if the frunk light is on, too. It should be. If it's not check the wiring to the light bulb.
Latch the engine bay with the lid open (use a screwdriver to close the latch). This makes the alarm think the lid is closed. Now open the frunk and see if the engine bay light is lit. If it's not lit the problem is in the frunk latch switch. Remember to pop the engine bay before you try to close the cover!
If anyone has NA schematics you could send them to me and I'll review them.

So my extremely boring mystery continues. I replaced the frunk light bulb with a new one, and the light still does not work. I suspected this after the old bulb came out with the filament looking good, but bulbs are cheap.
So being kind of a completist, what's my next step? It doesn't seem to have its own fuse, so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. The switch to turn it on is in the latching system, correct? Do these wear out?
The most likely issue is that the PO disabled the light because it was causing the battery to run down, but what's the hack? Snipping wires?
