In 914s, they make the horn access via two huge metal swoops on the steering wheel. One on each side. I suppose for a reason.

Re: FRUNKenstein’s ‘75 914 2.0
I ordered a set of these rocker panel covers before we left on vacation:
They were an accessory offered by Porsche back in the day, but Auto Atlanta sells replicas made using the same mold. They arrived while we were gone, and I installed the first one on Sunday afternoon. Somewhat mixed results. The cover is made of ABS plastic, and it says it can be mounted by itself or over the old steel factory panel. I installed it by itself, and it is clearly too flimsy to leave it that way. So, I'll pull it back off, and then mount both the steel and this one both together.
I'm kind of "meh" on them. I saw an original set with the first 914 I looked at, but they weren't mounted on the car and I really liked them. But, I think they actually look better off the car than on the car. Frankly, they look a little like someone came up with them after the fact, like in the '80's or '90's, rather than being period correct (which they are). But, I have them and they weren't real expensive ($179 for the set including shipping), so it's not a big deal as to whether I leave them on or not.
The jackpoint covers arrived while we were on vacation, also. Those were Porsche parts and they fit perfectly. Now, I'm fighting the center cap battle. The first set I ordered were too small, so the clips wouldn't hold them on. The next set was just a smidge too big (70 mm clip edge to clip edge) - I got them mounted, but they bowed out just a bit so that I wouldn't be able to mount a cover sticker flat. So, I've got a 3rd set on order now (69 mm clip edge to clip edge). Good thing that they are only $15 or $20 per set.
I still haven't decided on whether to keep the ATS wheels or go to the EMPI Fuchs replica 4-spokes. If I can't get center caps sorted out, then I may have no choice but to switch over to the EMPI Fuchs replica 4-spokes. If they made a 5-spoke Fuchs replica that mounted on a 4-lug wheel, that'd be an easy call.

I'd have to see what the plain rockers look like, but I actually like that look. I think it goes well with the blue. It makes the all black wheel look less out of place as well.

They're ok I guess. I think they would be received poorly on 914World. Stick with stock.

My buddy has those on his 914 as well - to me, they seem a little Hurdi-ish. On a black car, they're a little less obtrusive...on NAWTFNE's car, I'm not so sure.

If you lose your eyesight, you could always go with this treatment.
This specific 914 may have crossed the rainbow bridge...it's across the street from the vet; they likely put the poor thing down after the photo was taken.

Re: FRUNKenstein’s ‘75 914 2.0
Yesterday, I was backing out of the garage on my way to Porsche breakfast when one of the 3 gauges in my center console slipped backwards. Since the panel is just held in by friction, I pulled it out to straighten the errant gauge. There was a pretty good spaghetti dinner hiding behind that console panel, and as I fumbled with the gauge, a couple of the wires got knocked loose. Fast forward 5 minutes, and I had everything put back together. Then I noticed the voltmeter (one of the console gauges) wasn't working. And the alternator light was on. Ugh. Drove on to breakfast, then spent a couple of hours reading and troubleshooting the alternator light. Gave up and came to the conclusion that it needed to go to the mechanic. Wife walks by as I'm mumbling about my conclusion and she makes the snide comment "So, how many thousands of dollars is that gonna cost us?"
Today, however, victory was mine! As I'm installing the new stereo (see below), I'm looking for a switched power source. Looking at the fuse box, I notice a burned out fuse. Hmm, I wonder . . . , I can't be THAT lucky. But, I swap out the fuse, and sure enough, the voltmeter is working and the alternator light is out!!!
