Another Poll- Coupe Or Cabriolet ?
Another Poll- Coupe Or Cabriolet ?
I drive an 01 C4 Cab and really like the option of putting the top down when the sun is shining. I have a removable hard top as well but never use it as my 911 doesn't leave the garage in rain or snow.
Which is your preference -- coupe or cabriolet ?
I'm guessing coupe 10 to 1 .

Coupe+sunroof delete.
The feel of metal over my head is comforting. It's quieter. Isn't prone to leaking. Makes the car lighter and more rigid. I think it also has a more sleek look as well.

Re: Another Poll- Coupe Or Cabriolet ?
The main problem is that as our cars age, things go whacky and stop working. The cab top is very complex with hydraulics and microswitches that tend to wear out with age. So for your poll, I would take a coupe over a cab any day. In terms of longevity...
I have read many horror stories about working on 20+ year old cab components. I figure some people just give up on them and leave them closed all the time.

Just buy one of each. Problem solved!
Seriously though, unless you really want and will use the cabriolet "top down" a lot, the coupe is definitely simpler plus it's lighter and more rigid (= better handling). I do enjoy "top down" driving a lot and that's why I have the '02 996 Cab. I did have the hydraulic cylinders replaced a few years ago (seals were shot and leaking fluid), other than that no issues. I believe the fact it's garaged when not being driven helps longevity.

I love me a cruise with the top down, but for a 911, I prefer a coupe. That's why they make Boxsters.

Re: Another Poll- Coupe Or Cabriolet ?
I have a 911 coupe, but I used to have a Mercedes 560SL. Great top-down cruiser, but the soft top was totally manual. Getting caught out in the rain made for a very sudden stop and a literal chinese fire drill to get it in place. It was NOT easy. The car now resides in Denmark and the new owner is blissfully happy with it.
The older I get, the more vulnerable I feel, so no more open top cars for me.

But seriously when I voted with my wallet I bought a coupe. I feel like the "classic" 911 lines are most clearly defined with the coupe.

Coupe with sunroof. Best of all. Convertibles are a waste to me. Too windy. Too noisy. Too hot.
Never gonna make you cry...

I feel like the Cab doesn't look as good with the top up. Here in NJ, convertible weather is like a week.
