Took her out for her annual "safety inspection" (emissions test not required by the rural TX county in which we live):
1. Turn on emergency flashers so the tech could verify the light bulbs all worked...check!
2. Honk horn so the tech could verify it works...check!
3. Show proof of insurance...check!
4. Pay $7...check! (More accurately, by credit card )
5. Done, in and out in 5 minutes.
Then it was off to the local Home Improvement Store.

Texas makes you do all THAT!? Seems pretty much like a simple income producing activity for the state to me. Of course on the other side that would be nice as it might get some of the hoopties off the roads, but a serious hooptie driver could probably get the lights and horn working.

To be honest I think this year's inspection was "right sized" by the tech since past inspections have included tire tread depth, braking and e-brake function, headlights and a few other things.
Most of the state's population lives in areas where emissions testing is required in addition to the safety check. Being that it's Texas, a fair bit of common sense prevails; for the most part, the OBD2 must be "ready" for a test, and the tailpipe emissions must pass. No CARB-like inspections of parts and pieces.

This state has absolutely nothing, nada and I mean no inspections nor testing of any kind. Sometimes I wish they would do something because I've seen some pretty clapped out vehicles on I-80 cruising along exceeding 80 mph that I would be afraid to back out of the garage. I'm talking bald tires wobbling, fender flapping and bumper held on with duct tape. I slow down, let them go on and all the time watching for flying parts.

Put the engine back in since my "3 week" project to fix the oil leaks and the P1325 code is finished (I started on 12/24/2020, so much for "3 weeks").
All is well except that it doesn't run, dammit. I think the fuel pump may have checked out while the car was apart....

I debated awakening the sleeping 996 two week early since the weather has been so nice, but now it's forecast to snow this week so fuck you winter.

Wind moved the cover a little, so readjusted it and took the Rover.
Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
Finally put a new battery in it so it runs again. As mentioned elsewhere, Optima is finally offering a yellow top H6 that fits. So hopefully this battery won't get eaten as quickly as that Interstate POS I took out.
